Practically, none. They are all pagan religions. The Almighty YHVH created this world very good. Once man sinned, he could no longer meet the requirements of YHVH. Because of His great love for man, He send His son the Savior. The Savior's name means YHVH is my Savior!--YAHOSHUA! The only way one can have his sins taken care of is to invite the Savior in to carry them. If a person chooses to remain attached to their sins, they will be consumed in the cleansing fire the Almighty will send to cleanse this world so He can make it new! How could the Almighty be more generous?

If you are a Roman Catholic,
you know that Jesus Christ the Son of God founded your religion in the year 33, and that it has not changed since that time.

The denominations that followed are those that began with the first break-away from the Catholic Church when Martin Luther ex-monk of the Catholic Church founded the Lutheran religion, in the year 1517. They basically protested against the Catholic Church.

Then followed break-aways after break-aways and even today new churches are being formed that claim to be Christian. Catholics are the first Christians as history sees it. The Protestants protest about almost everything that the Catholic church believes in.

Hope this short summary of a very long history helps you see the difference between Catholics and Protestants.

Christians are followers of Christ, Jesus. This includes Catholics and Protestants.
Catholics do confession through priests, and do prayers to Mary, and some other things that Protestants don't do. Also Catholics use a Bible with more books that Protestants do.

The Catholic church is the "traditional" Roman Catholic church that's been around "forever".

Protestant religions emphasize Jesus, generally don't practice a lot of the religious rituals that Catholics do, and have a "simpler" religion.

Both groups are Christians because they follow the teachings of Christ.

I may not have described it as well as someone else may, but you get the idea.

First of all catholics and protestants are both christians because both believe in Christ. But what differs between one and other is that Catholic have focus on both Jesus and Maria, sometimes more Maria than Jesus, they are very religious. Protestants are more of relation with God than religion.

The difference is that Protestants have dropped most Tradition to some degree and some denominations other degrees, for a more Bible only based outlook on things, and why does everyone always leave out the Orthodox?

Once and for all, I would like to clear up some issues regarding Catholics:

We DO NOT pray to Mother Mary nor do we pray to the saints. We are ONLY asking for their intercession, the same way you'd ask a friend to pray for you. There is a whole world of difference between "praying to" and "asking to be prayed for". Hope that's cleared up.

"Christian" is a broader term. Under Christianity are Catholicism and Protestantism, etc; we all believe in Christ. That's the most basic similarity between the two.

Bascially (very basically) The Protestants broke from the Catholic Church because of grave abuse of the Pope's power.

Catholics pray to saints and believe in the "sacraments"...
Christians believe in the truth of the Word of God and not some watered down version of it.

There might be differences in teaching, but they were all founded on Jesus Christ, so they are in the same boat. What is the difference between a liberal, conservative, or NDP? Nothing, they are all liers and decievers, all in the same boat.
