Did the person you got the dog from make any recommendations on feeding? If not i would say to keep a bowl of dry food available during the day because small breed puppies can go into hypoglycemic shock if they go too long without food. Offer a little caned at morning or in the evening until the dog is over 8 months old. By a year it should be able to survive just fine on two meals a day. Be careful not to let your puppy become over weight. Always have water available and keep the puppy kenneled or confined to a small room until it is house broken or your whole house will become its toilet. Good luck and take your puppy to training classes and have fun.

Hi there. Doesn't matter what dog breed they all need the same nutrition. Whatever you do, don't give her human food or milk. She will have a runny tummy from the milk and love the human food so much that she wouldn't easily change to dog food later. Find a good dry food (pellets) and soak it in hot water for about 20 minutes. When cooled turn it over into a larger bowl so she can eat it easier. That's what I did and this way I made sure she didn't choke on the food. Always have allot of fresh water available too. You can give her doggy treats and start to teach her tricks, but only a few a day and remember to sweet talk her.
Good Luck. PS canned food are not so reliable these days as they used to be unless its specialized food.

Yorkies can be delicate little eaters so it's best to start on something easy to digest such as a little cooked chicken. My vet is dead against the tin stuff because it can contain all sorts of additives totally unsuited to a small-breed puppy. If you want to try a dry food, I can recommend Royal Canin Yorkie food or puppy food. I wouldn't suggest using a diet consisting of dry food alone, but it's worth offering a variety. Check out the Denes natural food website. Denes was devised by a vet and they offer all sorts of good advice.
Try to avoid giving your Yorkie pup anything which is over-rich, fatty, or spicey; Yorkie may love it - but his/her tummy will NOT! Remember, if in any doubt, your vet will always offer a diet plan.
All the best, Mo

whatever the breeder has recommended. Proper breeders give you a proper diet sheet along with a bag of the food it is used to.It will be puppy food and should be kept on this until it is a year old. Kibble is best.
