Naturally my hair is very dark brown. I have lots of different chunky blonde streaks and lighter brown streaks dyed into it.

The blonde parts after a few weeks of being dyed loose their blondeness and look browner and orangey tinged slightly. My hairdresser said its not and that im just imagining it or it looks darker as im getting used to it....but it definatly has, plus people keep asking me why ive gone darker - and im like I havent its just gone like that!!!

I use a shampoo n conditioner for dyed hair thats supposed to retain colour. I have heard you can buy purple shampoos to keep hair blonder would these work considering I also have brown streaks and dark brown streaks too, as what would it do to these parts?

So my question is - Why is my dyed blonde hair colour going darker and would special shampoos help and which ones? Thanks

You may have iron or other minerals in your water that deposit in your hair. Make a paste of baking soda, (a natural chelating or purifying agent), and water. Gently put it on wet hair, let it set for about a minute and then rinse and shampoo as normal. If there are minerals in your water, that should do the trick.

It happens because whatever minerals are in the water oxidize. When I bleached mine, I used a violet shampoo to cut down on the brassiness. One good one I found was Hask Stay Blonde.

If you like, you can get a gentle toner like Clairol Born Blonde. This stuff looks like cough syrup and is purple, but it won't dye your hair purple! It'll counteract the brassiness. Leave it on for 20 minutes or so, then rinse it out & condition like usual. The toner is so weak that while it affects the appearance of the blonde hair, any other shades you may have won't be touched.

Most importantly blonde streaks, especially when you are very dark (generally not such a good idea, stay with a darker shade) should be done professional colourist for best results, maybe your hairdresser just doesn't have the know how to recommend the best shade and uses cheaper products.

If you get pieces of your hair peroxide blonde then it probably just is not taking to you dark hair very well.. i personally dont believe in those shampoos working very much.. if i was you i would wait until the streaks fade or grow out and try using a product from a chemist to dye hair called sun in, it permanentely dyes hair gradually under heat or sun, can be bought in different strenghts of blonde, is cheap, and you just spray it onto your wet hair before you blow dry..easy.. i used it years ago and its good because you can choose how bright you want your blonde to be yourself
