Get Mini DV, for sure. They video quality is much better. Even if a HDD camcorder has higher resolution (rarely happens), Mini DV has MUCH better compression rates, as high as 25mb per second. Most HDD compression rates are only 9mb. So when that video is being compressed that small, the quality really suffers.
That is one of the main reasons why Mini DV is so much better than any other format right now. Technology is progressing though, and within a few years, medias such as HDD and DVD could get improved. But that won't be for at least a few years. GO WITH MINI DV!

For the same price, you will get higher video quality with minidv. With a HDD camcorder, a lot of the cost will go into the HDD and the additional processing to store the video.
If you compare two camcorders, one HDD and one minidv, that have the same optics and the same sensors, then the video quality will be the same, but the HDD camcorder will cost more.
The minidv records the video as a sequence of MPEG I pictures, essentially a sequence of JPEG pictures. The HDD camcorder records MPEG2 Video as a sequence of MPEG IPB pictures which results in smaller file size to transfer the same visual information. With minidv you use a computer the convert a sequence of JPEG pictures to usable video, whereas with HDD, the camcorder does the conversion.
If you have a computer and you plan to edit the video from the camcorder or burn it to DVD the HDD is a waste of money.

Mini-DV is extremely lots better in high quality. those DVD camcorders compress the video into mpeg-2 format and is not sturdy to artwork with while modifying. The mini-DV camcorder is rapid and rapid to apply. some (possibly all) DVD camcorders are merely like the recordable DVD recorders on your front room. The DVDs could "boot up" take time and format. With a mini-DV, you have already captured that once-in-a-lifetime 2nd that the DVD camcorder ignored. Mini-DV enables you to be greater resourceful prompt. i like to edit, and mini-DV is for you.

I'll give you a short answer, and hopefully in return, you'll give me 10 points :-)
If quality is your top priority, then theres nothing about it, go for miniDV. I mean yeah the file sizes are relatively huge (5min=1GB), and capturing video might want you to kill yourself one day, but then again, you did say quality was your top priority didnt you? Hope this helps!
