I am in the infantry and as far as being to fat? When I went to basic training there was a few big boys as we call them and they made it, they also lost a lot of wight. It does not matter what job you have in the army they all have the same hight and wight requirements. With the right recruiter they will help you loose wight so you can get in. And the infantry is NOT made of idiots there are many, many smart people in the infantry some of the smartest people that I have met.

I read your other question and you should just keep your 2 Big Mac eating fat butt on the couch and quit crying about how life has wronged you.

To answer this question, in 1942 my father joined the Navy at 15, he lied about his age. This is a different time. The all volunteer military has to weed out those that will not/can not make it.

Actually the Army personell are the only soldiers, the rest are Marines, Sailors and Airmen.

I find it amusing how when people can't get into a group they decide it is for fools or idiots. Are you saying to were too big of a fool to even get into the Army?

Because in an infantry platoon a fat whiner constitutes a danger not just to himself but to the rest of the platoon. Combat soldiers have enough to do without having to look after overweight whiners who can't keep up, much less pull their own weight.

And NO during the Vietnam war they did NOT "just take anyone".
That is an incredible insult to the people who did serve with valor in Vietnam. If they had "taken anybody" there wouldn't have been such a rush to get deferments now would there?

IF you really wanted to serve you'd do more than just whine about the unfairness of it all. You'd lay off the super sized double meat burgers with extra fries and be out jogging instead of sitting in front of a computer whining. Being an infantry solider is a lot harder than basic training, and basic training is a lot harder than doing the diet an exercise thing in the comfort of your own home. You lack the motivation to take proper care of your own body, how can you be expected to take care of your weapons, equipment, or the other soldiers who are depending on you?

If you're expecting a shoulder to cry on from me, you can forget it.

The military has height and weight standards, and if you don't mee them then I suggest you do a lot less eating and exercise something else besides your mouth and your tear ducts if you truly want to enlist. I might also suggest an attitude change, because with your current crybaby attitude, the drill sergeants are going to eat you for lunch. You will NOT make it through Basic with that attitude; check my profile and you'll see why I say that.

They didn't take "just anyone" in 'Nam, not even with the draft. If your number came up and you were a fatbody when you reported, you were deferred until you lost weight. Trust me, the last thing you want to be is a fat infantryman....physical fitness is your key to survival, and lugging around extra poundage will only get you and your fellow soldiers killed.

So go get an attitude adjustment, stop eating junk food, and get off your butt and exercise. If you're really serious about enlisting, that is.

You wouldn't want to serve being overweight, you wouldn't be able to do it. And I certainly didn't mean that as a knock against you. It's just the way things are. You have to be physically fit in order to be a soldier. The military needs people who are able to run/march/stand, etc for hours and hours on end. At the end of the day, every soldier's first priority is just that..being a soldier. Regardless of his or her's MOS, everyone is trained at a basic level to do the same thing (hence why they call it basic training) Even if you're a cook, you still have to be able to carry a heavy ruck sack, be an expert marksman, and do your job with out passing out from sheer exhaustion.

If it's something you have your heart set on, go to a recruiter and see if they will help you with PT (physical training). Or just try to work on it on your own. And even if you can't make it, alteast you know you tried, and are healthier for it.

If you are truly interested, lose weight. Basic is not a walk in the park and if you are really overweight, it's going to be very tough. Get in shape and reapply. And this is not Vietnam.

I wasn't infantry - I was artillery. Both are honorable. In fact, every MOS is honorable. And if you want the infantry, go out and walk 20 miles carrying a 50 pound pack. Do it in combat boots, a flak vest, a helmet and carry a weapon. If you can get someone to shoot at you from time to time, requiring you to seek cover quickly, that will add to the experience.

Lose some weight. Or, if you have any valuable skills or knowledge, join Bush's Civilian Volunteer Reserve Corps, whatever that is.

the military has minimum standards for height and weight. when you meet those standards, try again. and lose the attitude. It is a PRIVILEDGE to serve in the military, it is not an entitlement.
