The air force is trained in infantry tactics. The Air Force Security Forces or Security Police provide base security as well as law enforcement duties. Security Forces receive 33 weeks of intensive training in infantry tactics, ground warfare, and weapons handling at Lakland Air Force Base in San Anatonio Texas.. Don't assume that just because we are in the air force that we don't know how to use a weapon. This is why they call Security Forces... DEFENDERS!

First off, is there such thing as a Forward Air Force Base. The Air Force has Forward Observers attached to Infantry units to ensure that the USAF puts it where it needs to go. The Air Force usually is in the rear as there isn't too many runways sitting up at the lines/near the enemy. Unless things have changed, there are times the USAF has traveled 5000 miles just to drop some bombs and then head back home. I could envision maybe some A-10's etc being close to the front, but not at an Forward Operating Base.

Most forward bases are multi-force bases. I could only guess that if someone wanted to attack one they would get some Grunts, Mud dogs, Swabby's and flyboys kicking their butt.
