Hello there SugarPlum! (what a cute name!)
The most important thing to remember is that it is different for each woman! No one can say THIS is the day you are most fertile unless they know YOUR schedule.
You need to know how many days your go from one period to the next. While many women will arbitrarily use the two week or 14 day guideline that may or may not be right for you.
To put it very simply, you will ovulate half way in between the period you have already had and the one that you are expecting. If you are fairly regular and go the same number of days each month then that makes it easier. For the sake of simplicity we will use the 28 day cycle. That would mean that on day #14 of your cycle (with the day you started counting as day number 1) you should ovulate. When you are fertile you will notice an increase in cervical fluid. Some women just notice this as feeling very "wet" and some women actually feel like they are having a noticable discharge. This magical fluid that your cervix produces does some really neat things. For one thing it acts like a nurturing river for the sperm, they can actually swim in it as it gently guides them toward the uterus. It also has the ability to protect the sperm from the normally hostile environment of the vagina. The vagina is normally very acidic and will kill sperm very quickly, this fluid is alkaline and keeps them alive and well for up to 5 days! Under normal circumstances they expire within 30 minutes or so. The best time for you to make love if pregnancy is your goal is about three days before you ovulate, the day of your ovulation and one day after just for good measure. The reason that there is no point in trying much longer after ovulation is because the egg, once released is only viable for 12 to 24 hours. After that it is impervious to the sperm. But, the lucky guys that are already there waiting have the best chance at being the "one".
Did you know that all this was going on inside of you each month? It is actually very exciting and it happens every month like clockwork. The problem happens when a woman has very irregular periods and actually does not know for sure when to expect her next period. The best thing in that case is to try to make yourself very attuned to your own body and to watch for the telltale sigs of ovulation. Beyond that there are kits that you can buy that will tell you when you have ovulated.
One lady mentioned feeling a sharp pain clearly on one side or the other at that half way point. Some women swear that they feel this every month and others will tell you that they have never noticed it. It can be as little as a faint twinge or as strong as a really painful feeling.
The best thing I can tell you is to pay attention to all of these things and do what works for you. Every woman is different but you will soon be able to see your individual pattern, it is just a matter of every womens' unique cycle.
Good luck honey! What a lovely job you have ahead of you. Making a baby is such a sweet goal to be working toward! Very soon I am sure you will have exciting new to share.
Good luck and I hope I have been able to help. Write to me any time if I can answer any of your questions.
Love and Blessings.

If you want to find when you are most fertile you can try the following, this is not dependent on a 28 day cycle. You need to take your temperature at the same time every day (in the morning is best when you just get up as temperature fluctuates throughout the day). You need to record this every day and look for an increase. In a healthy woman her temperature will rise slightly when she is ovulating. You may also feel a slight pain around this time from the egg being released(called mittelsmirtz) and notice an increase in the stringiness of vaginal mucous, a little like the white of an egg. This is the time you are most fertile and most likely to conceive This is based on a means of conceiving called the Billings method. Women who use natural methods of birth control also use this method to predict when it is safe to have sex.

I am trying to get pregnant at the moment and I have been told by a qualified Nurse that if you calculate 14 days after the first day of your period on a calender put a circle around that day, then count 4 days back and put an X and 4 days forward and put an X and that is your most fertile week, according to her anyway. Good luck. xx

It depends on how long your cycle is. If your cycle every 28 days then you are most fertile about 10-14 days after the first day of your last period. you can check it out on-line by typing in "When are my most fertile days." some of The sites work it out for you all you do is type in the first day of your last period and they give you the dates you are most likely to conceive. it worked for me

It is approx two weeks after your period. This is when you are ovulating and the egg is produced and most fertile. IT is mainly the middle of your cycle give or take a few days and lasts a couple of days.

btw it's not alway 14 days after your last period, only if you have a 28 day cycle it is 14 day. If you have a 32 day it is different.

everyone is different, but you will most likely ovulate anywhere from day 10-17 of your cycle. That means the first day of your period is day 1, you count from there. Again, everyone is different, and most will tell you day 14-17. Personally, I missed my "window" for months and months by going by that recommendation, I actually ovulated on days 10 and sometimes 11. if you would like to find out, you can take the ovualtion kit tests. They can get costly, and you have to use them consistently, but are helpful if you are trying to conceive. Oh, one other word of advise! Try not to stress too much about it!!!

Apparently you are more fertile 14 days after the first day of your last period. This is when eggs are released or something!!
