ok lets say you take hypothyroid medicine... what if you take more then you are prescribed? does this make you have a faster metabolic rate? and will you lose weight this way?

No, it will not help you to lose weight. It may cause your heart to speed up and you might get diarrhea resulting in a possible trip to the ER. If you are hypothyroid and are not losing weight its because of a few different reasons.

1) your TSH is too high. It should be around 1.0 in the morning.

2) Your may need a T4/T3 thyroid medication dosed by Free T4and Free T3

3) If you have gained weight from being hypothyroid, the weight gain could have resulted in insulin resistance. To find this out, you would have a fasting glucose and a fasting insulin test done.

I don't mean to sound rude, but that logic is along the same line of: "If I double up on my birth control pills, will I be extra not pregnant?" The medication you take for hypothyroidism is a hormone. Taking extra will not push your metabolism to work faster than normal. You will not lose weight. If you take extra medicine for two weeks, what do you do for the next two weeks? You will be out. If you stop taking thyroid medicine abruptly, it can cause serious problems, like a heart attack.
