I think you should try to be less like the girls on "My Super Sweet Sixteen" and more thankful that your parents are letting you have a party at all. Of course, you want some things your way since it is a party for you, but you have to remember that your parents are the ones paying for it and you are still only 16. Happy Birthday!

ofcourse if i'm you, i will try hard to explain to your parents at first, what kind of party you actually prefer. If your parents would like to arrange a big dinner for you (for those aunty uncle cousin), then you can make it another day, or else early day, then the the actual day you could celebrate like crazy with your best friends. such as party at pub, a ball, karaoke and so on...b4 that the most important thing is talk calm and softly with your mom before both of you relationship getting bad. your mom only want you happy!!!

well this is your 16 birthday it should be really special for you. you are halfway through adolescence. try to convince your mom that this would really mean a lot to you and that this is your 16 birthday and you be 16 again in your life. when i had my 16 birthday party it was just what you want. but my parents were understanding.

Have two parties one for family that is traditional, and another one with friends that is your fun party!
