well first why we fast is to remember and feel what poor people are dealing and going through ,and it makes us appreciate everything that we have, but for those who have a special reason Allah let them eat in Ramadan :like if your ill or going to another country (travelling) ,but providing you fast them after Ramadan is over (and not in Eid) if you still can't there are other options too like feeding poor........................
and Islam told us that for the one who fasts there is two thing he should look forward to :
1- when he eats at sundown.
2- in the day of judgement were he will be rewarded greatly.
and we celebrate after Ramadan to show that we've hold on right through it.

I 'wuduh' (wash as though preparing to pray) and brush my teeth. I find this really helps and is good for my teeth too! Praying always helps too of course, it breaks the day up and the light 'exercise' involved helps fend off the hunger pangs. Except maybe when my period is due! Nothing can stop those cravings and hunger pangs!
I feel from my heart that Allah asks us to take a leap of faith and fasting proves we believe in Him totally, as He is our nourishment, our provider and only He knows what we need.
I am relatively new in Islam and struggle each year to fast and it's easier where I live as the sun sets and rises at the same time every day (5.15am - 7pm). I can't imagine fasting during, for example, British summertime! (I'm British but living in Malaysia).
We are supposed to use the time to reflect, pray and control our emotions, spread words of peace and love, pay the Zakat and share food with others. We are to be humbled and walk in the footsteps of those who are unable to eat. It also helps us never to take food for granted.
What I abhor is to see people stuffing their faces all night, taking meals until the early hours of the morning and eating more than ever. I take a fairly heavy breakfast of porridge before sunrise, a modest meal at sundown and a malted, cereal based drink before sleep. Fasting month is not about 'surviving' the whole day, it's about surviving the whole month and trying to apply the same principles in our every lives. Not to be too greedy in any aspect of life!

I do three day fasts once a month (christian). During these fasts, i do drink water. I drink juices to to get thru the day of hunger pains. the first two days are the roughest, after that, the body starts to realize, I am not going to eat. If your religion allows you to drink fluids during this time, I would suggest, milk, juice, and soup to get you thru til the midnight meal when you can eat and to keep your strength up since you are working and fasting at the same time. The soup, must be broth though, no veggies in it. You can even drink tea, watch coffee, it has caffeine and will stimulate your appetite and make you even more hungry, so will soft drinks with caffeine. You could make jello to like a hot drink.

Im a christian who fasts for the occasional day or two, and I notice that my faith often increases when I fast. It disciplines
the emotional side of your nature that can tend to get in
control very easily.
Jesus has some teaching on fasting, after the Transfiguration,
you'll have to look it for yourself though.
When He comes down from the mountain, He has to heal
a hard demon possession case that his disciples were thrown
by. He implied they needed prayer and fasting to overcome their
unbelief.
So just bear in mind that if you are seeking God with a good
heart you can have faith that it is a useful exercise.
(I don't think fasting will help for the Saddam or Osama B.L. type of muslim. They probably just get meaner.)

every part of the body needs to rest: sleep for brain and heart
seeting for legs and so on
and the rest of the stomack is sawm. but everything has it own rules you need energy so you eat the fast before morning "azan" and you dont eat till "maghrib" "azan" and after that you better start your eating with Date
sawm is a way for you to learn to control yourself it means you can eat but you dont so it make you strong
sawm will make you to tastethe poorness and being hungry

Take a Mars Bar into the toilets and have a secret scoff.
Who's going to know?
As for the other bits, google search "Sawm" and there are no benefits to fasting unless you have a virulent stomach problem.
I do know what you're supposed to look forward to at the end of Ramadan - Eid - food and fireworks, as far as I can tell.

Whenever you are doing a hard task; what keeps you going on?
* The belief in what you are doing
* The reward you are expecting out of it
* Being conscious of the factors that might discourage you and disregarding them
This is what will give you the strength to go on.

Yes - if you're hungry during Ramadan, just nibble on a tasty pork chop or a packet of pork scratchings.
