Jesus Christ. NOT HIS FOLLOWERS, nor his so-called followers. Just him. What has He ever said or done that is offensive, insulting, or evil?

Paul- yes everyone who isn't a Christian hates us, we know, we get it. That wasn't my question. I am asking you what offends you about the teachings and life of Jesus Christ.

Paul, please don't be hurtful. I feel I am asking a valid question. What I wanted to know is this: Do Atheists reject Jesus: 1) only because of his followers, 2) because they don't believe he existed at all, 3) Because He claimed to the be the Son of God, 4) Because they don't agree specifically with the things He taught.
That's what I'm getting at, make more sense?

Yeah so anyway, to the rest of your it looks like the consensus is you like what Jesus had to say, you just don't believe in His Godhood. Thank you, that is what I wanted to know.

Thank you Brendan, I was hoping you'd answer this, and thumbs up for an honest answer. Have you given thought to the works of Josephus, a secular Historian who recorded much about the life of Jesus (whom he did not believe was God). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephus

Thank you, sngcanary, for a very well written answer. Paul S's answer is usually what I get from Atheists. Thanks again and I don't hate you at all! :)

Jesus didnt do anything that was offensive or evil that I know of. I just dont believe in the supernatural. The teachings of the bible do not make logical sense to me. I sat down and examined what I really believe one day and found that I was forcing myself to believe things I knew were not true, ie the virgin birth, the ressurection, miracles, the creation story and hell in particular. I also dont understand how an all loving God could be so obtuse and allow the vast majority of people to go to hell just because they happened to be born in a country with a different religion.
I dont hate Jesus. I dont hate christians. I dont hate muslims. I try very hard to not hate anyone. Its a waste. Please, dont hate me because I think for myself. I bet you would be very surprised if you met me. I dont have horns. I dont commit crimes because I dont believe in god. I am a very kind person. I give my time and money to good causes. I care very deeply about people. Atheists are not what you think!

I guess it depends on your viewpoint.
From the Jewish perspective, he committed blasphemy. They were not even allowed to utter God's name and here comes a young upstart declaring that he was the son of God. I would imagine that the ancient Hebrews would think that was offensive and evil.
Personally, I thought Jesus had some good bits, like the golden rule, but then again, the golden rule had been uttered far before the time of Jesus.
However, there is not a lot of evidence that Jesus even existed. The gospels were written DECADES after his supposed death. I think a strong argument could be made that most of Jesus' life had been made up by Saul/Paul as the foundation for a cult that later expanded into a major religion.

Jesus hasn't said anything that I find offensive. But then I've never met the man. But then again he died about 2000 years ago so I never had the chance.
And to be honest, no one really knows what Jesus said. We have it third hand from some other people. And then there words have been translated many times over so who knows if the translations were accurate. And then the Catholic church selectively use various parts to create the Bible.
I'm not an atheist because I was offended by Jesus. I am an atheist because the idea of an all powerful being controlling the universe doesn't make any sense to me.

I've never really had a problem with Jesus per se because he is just a myth, but here are a few verses where he says some questionable things there are many more:
Mark 4:11-12 Jesus explains why he speaks in parables: to confuse people so they will go to hell.
4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
John 6 The people of Nazareth, who knew Jesus well, did not believe in him.
6:42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
John 7 Even Jesus' family didn't believe in him.
7:5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

Certainly i dont know of too many atheists who dislike Jesus as a historical figure. The things attributed to him in the Gospels are some very valuable moral precepts, even if in many cases they were already being taught... (Golden Rule...Confucius in 6th century B.C.E. (and even he claimed he was just a trasmittor not an innvator so the rule must have been going on for much longer)) this doesnt discredit the notion that Jesus provided a good compass for how people can live their life. Even many Atheists recognize that. However, simply because he gave a good example of how to live a life does not equate to demaning our worship as a deity. There have been many good if not great moral compasses as people throughout the history of humanity. This doesnt mean that we have to worship him as a part of triune God to be able to appreciate his life.

Evil is a basically non secular theory and has no relevance to an atheist. yet there is that this variety of element as organic morality - maximum human beings have an innate experience of what's right and incorrect fairly aside from any faith - and atheists persist with that.

Jesus has never done or said anything. He, along with the entire bible, is the creation of man. Saying that Jesus has been evil or offensive is like saying a comic book hero like Batman is offensive.

Jesus is not the only God most of us don't believe in, including you Christians, what did other Gods say that made you reject them I wonder?
My objection to theists is that they attempt to impose their wacky beliefs on society through legislation...this is contemptible behaviour otherwise I couldn't give a darn what any of you believe in and I'd be quite happy for you to continue believing anything you want through faith alone so long as you don't try to force me and others like me to observe your peculiar religious laws and particular religious moralities...I have my own thank you.

I have never accused Jesus of being offensive, insulting or evil. As a fact I believe some of the things he taught about love of your fellow man to be quite nice. I just don't agree he was a virgin birth, a God or the Son of God.

First of all you seem a little bitter if you can't take the answers when you ask a question. Second, I don't think Jesus is offensive. What I think is offensive is people that try to shove him down other's throats.
