I am considering fasting on fruit/vegetable juices to try to lose weight. I am 36yrs old 5' 9" and I weigh 283lbs. I have already lost 12lbs in the last 2 weeks by cutting out all sweets, bread, cheese, junk food, fast food and eating smaller portions of healthy meals. I also do cardio for about 30mins a day.

My question is .. Is fasting in this matter healthy and what should I expect my symptons to be during those 10 days?

Aren't the fruit and vegetables supplying all the nutrients and protein you normally need?

Fasting in order to lose weight is not healthy. Your body needs nutrients from a variety of foods daily... inclulding protein.

You're already doing the very best and healthiest thing to lose weight... cutting out sweets, controling portions, and exercising. Try to be patient. Remember... you got big slowly. It is most healthy and the results and longer lasting if you also lose it that way.

Congratulations on your new healthy lifestyle choice! Stick with it. You'll be better off in the long run.

Fasting is not a good method for weight loss.
You can however designate 1 or 2 "raw" days per week during which you eat only raw fruit and veggies (juiced or whole) and veggie broth. You can also go one better and do yoga or go swimming, essentially giving your body a healthy day off.
IF you do decide to fast, please only do so with a great deal of research, planning and ideally with the help of a professional. It is a great thing to do for your body but it will not help you on your weight loss journey. Good luck!

Fasting is not really a good idea - your body was designed to work with specific amounts of various nutrients and denying yourself any of those nutrients is not healthy. What you've been doing for the last two weeks has obviously been working, which is awesome! You've been doing good so far, so keep it up until you "plateau" - then try adding some weight training and more protein. Also, if you get cravings for bread, just go to your locally owned bakery and get some real bread - it's actually pretty healthy in small amounts and tastes really good(assuming you've got a good bakery :p). Good luck, I hope things work out for ya!

Fasting will destroy your body. DON'T do it. Stick to eating 5 to 6 small healthy meals a day. Treat yourself on the weekends to some 'cheating.' That way your body doesn't feel like it's being deprived. Do at LEAST 45 minutes of cardio for 45 minutes at a time to see fast results. Once you reach your goal, try different things but remember...cardio is the key to weight loss!

Fasting is not healthy as your metabolism will slow down and the minute you eat again (even healthy food), your body will store it as fat. The best way to lose weight is to eat healthily, eat smaller portions, make sure you eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and exercise regularly. You shouldn't completely cut out entire food groups such as carbohydrate or fat as your body needs these in order to function properly. Your body needs small amounts of fat to work, and you are best to try and eat less saturated fat. Eating oily fish is a good way of getting essential fatty acids into your body; try to eat these about 2-3 times a week. Research has also shown that by eating calcium (i.e. cheese and milk), your weight loss can be aided.

Fasting is not good. Have a balanced food eat less fat, avoid oily food, you must consume what is required for your body. Your body cells are used getting some food coming in at certain times. Consult a dietician or look at some websites to have a balanced diet & start walking (believe me it's the best excercise in the one can ever practice).

Lisa answer is just GREAT!!! read all of it.... and I think I can add some things to her answer....

It is also good to try to eat instead of 3 meals per day.. 6 meals per day about 3 hours from one another... It improves your metabolism greatly.....
Like Lisa said Fasting is BADDDD and she explained beautifully why.....

Like she said you must never eliminate completely the carbohydrates and fats from your diet, because their are also needed.... The only thing is that you must eat always the right carbohydrates and fats.... Do not eat white bread for your carbohydrates instead eat whole wheat bread, etc.... for your fats do not eat butter, mayonnaise, etc... use instead extra virgin olive oil or fish, etc... These are just mere examples... eliminate some products such as white bread and mayonnaise and fast food like you already did, but do not eliminate the fat and carbohydrates completely....
