My mum was my best friend until she passed away 8 months ago at the age of 60. I miss her so very very much. She was always there for me and my two brothers.I could talk to her about anything at any time. She worked immensely hard to keep me and my brothers on the straight and narrow and she succeeded. When she was told that she had cancer and that it was terminal, the first thing she told the doctor was that she was going to fight the disease. My mum was only given 6 months to live but with my mums will to fight the cancer she lived for many more months. She lived for a year and 5 months more. I am answering your question now and I have tears as I have my mum on my mind all day long. She appears in my dreams a lot, always happy dreams and when I tell my friends about this they say its because she has passed recently and that eventually these dreams will fade but I hope they will not as this makes me smile in the mornings and helps me to go through another day a little bit better.

When your mom is your best friend, the mother and daughter relationship grows stronger. But unfortunately my mom is not my best friend and she can't be. I'm from a conservative family, so I can't share my feelings about a perticular guy I like and stuff like that. And she keeps on suspecting me and advicing me that never fall into any boy friend and girl friend relationships(even if I dont have any intensions to fall in that sort of relationships). Like......dah I have only had a crush I don't have a boyfriend yet.
But that does not mean that she is not a good mum. She is only too concerned.
My mom and my best friend both are really important to be. These are important relationships. But my mom can never take the place of a best friend in my life, and my best friend of course can never take the place of my mom.

Yea i would have to say she is, we have been through so much together and if it wasn't for her i won't be here today. She is more like a big sister and best friends rolled into one rather than my mum. although she will put me in my place when i'm in trouble but as my mum always say you may be to old to be grounded but your never to old for a clip around the ear. LOL.
I think people who have closer relationship with there mothers are more willing to open and be more trusting to new people and if things don't turn out like you planed she is always there as a sholder to cry on.

Ah, no ! She's far from being my best my friend ! I love her, she is my mother, but I don't like her very much if I'm honest ! I wouldn't talk to her about anything important, she blew the possibility of a friendship between us out of the window when I was a kid !
It would be lovely though to see your mum as your best friend, but I'm afraid I wouldn't know !

My mum and my sister are my best friends. My mum can let me be myself and if I am in a bad mood one day or say something stupid it’s good to know that it won’t mar her opinion of me. We are both really similar so we talk a lot (we are both INFP’s)…I don’t think it is “sad” to be best friends with your mum. She knows what I am really like and pushes me to be the best part of myself and to do what I want to…there is a different dimension to being friends with your mum, and, other family members, than there is with other people…because they know what you are really like and love you for it.

Yes my Mum is definitely my best friend without a doubt, she is always there for me, never lets me down and I love her so so much, no other friend could possibly love you as much. And to that person who thinks people like us are sad - Up yours!!!

yes she is, most definitely. She so supportive, generous, loving and caring and always has time for me no matter what she's doing. Yes, we've fallen out on a few occasions but it's usually been to do with men (when they're treating me badly and I'm just blinded by "love"!) but it's only because she cares. I love her to bits, she's the most precious thing in my life.

To "hard as nails" (like, I bet you really are...not!) - mothers are not just mothers - they are people in their own right who just happen to have given birth. Unfortunately you can't choose your children - else I'm sure your mum wouldn't have chosen you...how ungrateful you are.

Yes, my mum's my best freind. She's there for me 24/7, and never fails to help me out even when she's head deep in problems herself. A selfess woman. A true freind indeed.

Not at all, i think we know we love each other but we don't really get on... i don't feel i can talk to her about the simplest of things, i always feel she will judge and criticise my decisions, cos i guess she always has. I'm 28 and thought we would get on great by now but the barrier is getting bigger and bigger. My husband is my best friend, he trusts me, believes in me and never judges me!!

She didn't used to be. We argued so badly when I was a teenager that I left home at 17 to live with my boyf at the time. However, over the years (since I got rid of him!) we've grown very close. And now I have a daughter of my own, I understand how protective and loving she was trying to be.
