I vote for saying something and wishing you hadn't. Once it slides off the tongue, you can never take it back. If you don't say nothing, you can always say it later or at least learn from it.

I would say wish that I had said something, my first love told me years later, about a year after we broke up, she would have gone out with me again, had I ask. even the worst thing I ever said, to an ex wasn't something I didn't mean, and I don't have any regretts.

Depends what it is you want to say. If it's feelings I would say what I had to say. You just never know. But if it's a problem that I have with something or someone I tend not to say anything and then kick myself because I didn't.

I think it depends on what you wanted to say. Saying something that will hurt another person just to ease your own guilt is never a good idea. Neither is keeping quiet and not getting your own needs met.
