Should it be the left or right ear?

it's actually for my son for his 12th birthday tomorrow, he's nagged me for years, now I'm giving in. Just didn't wanting him getting the 'rip' took out of him at school :)

Most boys get both ears pierced today rather than only one ear.

That used to be how the phrase went. HOWEVER, now a days, anyone stupid enough to follow that should be punched, hard.
Stereotypes are becoming outdated and ridiculous. People can say what they want but tattoos, piercings and the locations of those things don't really say anything about a person other than preference. Personally, I think just one earring looks silly.

Years ago the rule of thumb for gay men was this ditty: "Left is right and right is wrong". Now it doesn't much matter. No-one pays the least bit of attention to fashion rules. The reason for the difference being made known back then was primarily so we could identify each other across a crowded room, not as a rule for str8 people to follow. Anyone who tells you that it was the right ear is misinformed.

You could go with either or both. Typically, however, piercing only the right ear has been associated with the gay community as an indicator of homosexuality in men. If the person isn't interested in piercing both ears and isn't trying to attract attention from gay men (or bigots), he should stick to piercing just the left ear.

I think it doesn't look stupid or gay at all, I like boys with their ears pierced, you should get it done. I think which ear would depend on your hairstyle or other stuff but left ear would be better! Good Luck,..

Usually boys dont have ear rings. out of the ones that do most do the left, David Beckham has both, which is ok if thats what you want, but just the right says "I am Gay"
so I am told.

i had my ear pierced at 15 I'm now 40 and still got it in for our wedding anniversary me and the wife both had a piercing done she had a belly ring put in and i had my nipple done and to answer your question on the left

its up to the boy. ignorent people say having just the right pierced means your gay, but in this day an age is can be anything.

its the left.. and for all those people saying it doesnt matter.. people at my school still get called names if they get it in their right ear!!
