what I have always been genuinly curious about is why christians say they believe in the soul but seem to base their morality as if they didn't believe in one. For instance, if a person has an abortion, its not as if his soul was being killed..... or is it? I really don't know your views and am curious.

The bible defines the soul differently from philosphy. Philosophy defines souls as something inside the body...

Gen. 2:7: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” (Notice that this does not say that man was given a soul but that he became a soul, a living person.

Josh. 11:11: “They went striking every soul [Hebrew, ne′phesh] that was in it with the edge of the sword.” (The soul is here shown to be something that can be touched by the sword, so these souls could not have been spirits.)

Gen. 1:20, 21, 24, 25: “God went on to say: ‘Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls* . . . ’ And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. . . .

Lev. 24:17, 18: “In case a man strikes any soul [Hebrew, ne′phesh] of mankind fatally, he should be put to death without fail. And the fatal striker of the soul [Hebrew, ne′phesh] of a domestic animal should make compensation for it, soul for soul.” (Notice that the same Hebrew word for soul is applied to both mankind and animals.)

Can the human soul die?

Ezek. 18:4: “Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul* that is sinning—it itself will die.”

Is the soul the same as the spirit?

Eccl. 12:7: “Then the dust returns to the earth just as it happened to be and the spirit [or, life-force; Hebrew, ru′ach] itself returns to the true God who gave it.” (Notice that the Hebrew word for spirit is ru′ach; but the word translated soul is ne′phesh. The text does not mean that at death the spirit travels all the way to the personal presence of God; rather, any prospect for the person to live again rests with God. In similar usage, we may say that, if required payments are not made by the buyer of a piece of property, the property “returns” to its owner.)

Eccl. 3:19: “There is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit [Hebrew, ru′ach].”

So the soul is us, not something apart from us. So, yes, abortion is killine a soul..that is a human baby.

I am not sure I understand your question, but I will provide you some information to clarify.

The soul is most often referred to as the seat of your emotions.
It is the part of you and your character that make you who you are. The soul motivates your thinking process and what comes out of your mouth because it is your emotions that really control your behavior.

Many women who have had abortions have been ridden with great guilt after the fact. They go into a great depression that is caused because they killed something that belonged to them.
Sometimes it is ten years later when this depression hits them, but it is like they are in mourning for the child that they could have delivered and did not because of things that were going on in their life at the time they had an abortion.

You may be referring to the soul of the child that is being killed, if so that soul has just been released to go to heaven without having lived this life first. That just isn't the way things were planned. It is intended for a soul to live a full life before returning to the father in heaven.

So maybe we have discussed what you were asking about and maybe not, since your question was not made real clear.

Every human has a soul and that is the essence of our being. Human Being! When God created humans He created every single person who has been, is and will be part of humanity. He did this on the sixth day of creation. Believe it or not our soul is eternal just the same as God is eternal because we were created in His image. Of course none of us are God but we are created in His image. When our time on earth has passed (we die physically) our soul lives on forever. It is our choice today to decide where! Heaven or Hades. I choose Heaven and pray that you do as well.

What rubbish. Abortion is murder. Only God can kill souls.
Pray to God, so that your soul is not killed. It's enough that you worry about yourself. Worry about today, that you might live.
