Do any of you know what you are talking about?
Australia while not the easiest county to immigrate to is still not very hard. I and at least 50 people I know have all emigrated or are in the process of sponsorship, there are so many options to emigrate here it is not funny.
If you can not answer a question for someone with knowledge than shut up!!

They really tax your earnings? You have not lived in Ireland, France, England, Germany, Brussels should I go on? Australia has the cheapest cost of living for a civilised country
Australia is a wonderful country with sun shine and a life style to die for, so much better than cold Ireland brrrrr.. Come with a backpack and a dream I did !!

You've got much more chance if you have a required skill. Trades of most kinds are in demand or medical types.
You could go on a tourist visa for one year (I'm not sure if that may have been extended to two years now) and live and work there. that way you'll get a feel for a place and can also try getting an employer to sponsor you for residency. Your final option is to shack up with an ozzie bird and get a De Facto residency.

many people have done this kind of thing
but I would advise you to get in touch wiht immigration first about having work permit not because you intent to go to work but just in case you decide to work or you run out of money
and since the worl is not as safe as it was in the past I would also advise that you get smart and carry sometraveler checks instead of just cash

You could go as a backpacker but you wouldn't be able to stay permanently. To get a visa to move there permanently you have to meet certain criteria.

Its possible to do. I did it. You can get a visa online and they dont check how much cash you've got. Its quite easy to get a job out there but they really tax your earnings so be careful.

They won't want you unless you have 70k minimum in the bank.
