dvd,

Yeah, I studied ShrorinJi kempo for four years...loved it!

I like the combined strikes, and that the majority of the kicks are kept low.

I did it in my teens, and it was my first taste of martial arts. it was very rewarding, and varied. I never got bored, and gained confidence that was sadly lacking at that time. I would put my son into it if I wasnt already giving him my own adaptations of my experiences.

I went on from there into my 20's with Muay Thai, which I recommend as a follow on to Kenpo (or any karate/kung fu) as it has different approaches and a lot of power...

enjoying myself now in my 30's with CQC.

the best thing I did was not get stuck with just one thing for ever. mix it up, and you WILL expand your horizons considerably. for the Asker, good to hear of your enjoyment of it. stick with it now, but consider adding another art that is different in approach later in life for further and unending growth, for both you personally, and your martial knowledge. you will be older one day, so spend those days reaching for knowledge.

I do Shaolin Kempo which is similar.

I like the logic applied to traditional styles. Things aren't done just because it's tradition, they have applications in real fighting. Kicks are applied belt level and down because it's unsafe and impractical to kick higher then that in a real fight. Punches are to softer areas of the body making for more damage not to the jaw, skull or chest where you're likely to hurt yourself.

Quick fist combinations combined with body dynamics, breathing and a common sense approach to implementing the moves.
