Some nights when I sleep I wake up about every other hour because I keep having dreams that are too active and real. It's not that they are intense in their plot or anything but they just seem so real and everything is always so busy in them that it seems to wake me out of my sleep. It causes me to wake up sleepy and my day is just blah. I've heard of things to take and do to help you have more intense dreams but nothing for less intense dreams. Does anyone have any ideas?

PS They aren't bad dreams and my eating and drinking habits don't seem to correspond in any way either.

Are you taking any meds? Particularly anti-depressants? Anti-depressants tend to inhibit the body from going into REM mode for long periods of time, therefore causing short, intense dreams, and you feel like you didn't sleep a wink all night.
Also you said it didn't have anything to do with your eating/drinking habits. But low-blood sugar has been linked to night terrors as well. If you eat several hours before you sleep this could happen.
I have suffered from nightmares for several years now. These are hints that have helped me manage the dreams a bit.

It sounds to me like your dreams are stress related. Do you have a lot on your mind, or does your mind race over the events of the day when you go to bed? I know that often when I lay down at night I tend to think of all the things that I didn't get done that day, or of all the things I have to do the next day...and this truly effects my sleep. As silly as it sounds, try to clear your mind at bed time. Also, I've found that drinking a glass of soymilk and reading a little bit before bed helps a little.
If all else fails, talk to your doctor. There are many new sleeping pills on the market now that are non-addictive and have few to no side affects. Good luck!

Does this happen every night? Has this gone on for more than a month and it really bothers you a lot? If so, maybe talk to a doctor, there could be some kind of depression or anxiety. Are you on any medications? If it just happens every once in a while, I wouldn't worry about it. I talk medication for depression and I started to have really intense dreams when I changed medication, but it stopped after about a month.

Try having some warmed milk before bedtime. There is something in warmed milk that relaxes the body and the brain. You may have an overactive brain especially at bedtime. This can be triggered by excessive television or computer viewing right before turning in for the night. Try to shut off the television one hour before bed, drink some warmed milk and get some solid sleep during the night. Good luck.

well it could be that you have an overative imagination. is anything bothering you. sometimes with vivid dreams that may not be nightmares but disturbing or awkward it is our subconscious telling us that something is wrong. you said that the dreams are really busy, you might need some relaxation time, because in your subconcious your life is hectic and array. try having a day preferabbly a weekend where you just chill out and take time for youself.
