A few years ago, I heard about a suggestion from officials from Turks and Caicos who would like to join the Canadian Confederacy.

I don't know if this is true or not but I would like to get you idea on this. If true, should Canada have Turks and Caicos as a canadian province?

Liberal governments have consistently rejected the applications of Carribean jurisdictions to join Canada because they have felt these places would provide an undue burden on our equalization programs, create an immigration/refugee nightmare, and smack of colonialism. There is also issues where these jurisdictions don't not want to assume full status as a province but instead want to create some sort of assymetric federalist relationship and lord knows what that could do to the rest of Confederation vis-a-vis Quebec.

No application has ever been made by any Carribean jurisdiction to join Canada while a Conservative government has been in power.

As to my opinion on the matter. I think most of those concerns are valid, but not something we should worry about. I think some sort of political union would be great for Canada and whatever Carribean island wanted to get in on the party. It would be good for investment and tourism. I have no idea why the Liberals were always so reluctant.

Absolutely. The only thing Canada lacks is warm beaches, decent food, and fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. With those islands added, it would then be perfect.
