The question is, what genetic survival advantage does this give to the individual "bitches".

I could speculate on possibilities: More pups means less odds of your pup getting eaten by a predator, therefore higher odds of survival per individual pup. More milk mums around means more food options for the pups, and also means that mum may have more freedom to hunt with other mothers around taking their turn suckling the little brats. I'm sure you could go on with this and think of some more...but you get the idea.

This is very true they do come into season together, I have always wondered myself, I did try to look up for you but could not find anything, Maybe it is because in the wild they would have lived in packs, therefore there would have been a dominant male who would have a choice of females to mate with, so maybe the bitches would come on season together for this reason, it also happens wirh women also, I lived once wirh several women in a house share and everyone's cycle was different, but as time went on the cycles all became closer together, strange.... unexplained.... Very interesting... maybe it's a hormonal bonding thing,

Well, not exactly at the same time, but yes, my girls tend to come in season at around the same time or one after the other. Makes it chaotic for a while, but at least it keeps it to a smaller percentage of the time than if they all came in separately.

Did you mean female dogs, or were you blasting women?

Anyway, a study was done using college woman in a dorm setting. Eventually every female would start having their menstral cycles at the same time. Which means they would likely ovulate (come into heat as it were) at the same time.

This would suggest a pharamone (hope I spelled that right), or hormone if that is easier for you to understand. The same subconscious scent that male animals sense to determine when the female is ready for breeding.

for the very same reason female humans and many other female species do, its a pack thing and its all down to hormones. Nothing unusual at all.

It's the same thing with women in the same household- their menstrual cycles will actually begin to synchronize over time. This is communicated by subconscious empathy, which is all theory, but is generally accepted.
