I have 2 prolapsed discs (L4/5 and L5/S1) that I am having surgery for. I have been told that I can't drive for 6 weeks after surgery, but was wondering if anyone knew how long it would be before I could think about starting to work etc again.

Had the operation my self and was up and walking in 24 hrs and out of hospital after just two nights stay.
Yes you will be off work for about 6 weeks , although I went back after 4 but my job was a desk job and I made sure that I did not lift and heavy items and got up and walked around about every 20-30 mins.
While off work plenty of walks should be taken, start with a fairly short walk for the first few days and gradually make them longer.
Sit in an upright chair and get up after 20mins and walk around or stand for 20mins.
You will need physiotherapy to get the back and stomach muscells strong and will need to learn how to get out of bed correctly, with out twisting or straining the back. The reason for not driving is to avoid any jarring of the spine or twisting while looking to reverse.
You will soon heal and the good news is the pain you had will be gone and there is very little discomfort after the op.
Just a word of warning, always remember that after the op. you will have a weakness in your back that you need to be aware of, and take special care when lifting. Other than that you will find life is great again.
Good luck and best wishes for a new you.

Prolapsed Disc Recovery

Had this done-although on only one disc.
Rubbish to say you can't drive for 6 weeks.
You should be out of hospital in about a week to 10 days and if you are otherwise healthy you should be fairly back to normal after 3 weeks.
Driving shouldn't be a problem and I daresay you will be surprised how much more comfortable you are if you have had sciatica due to the prolapsed discs causing pressure on the nerve whilst sitting and the resulting temporary cut off of the blood supply.
The important thing is to go steady and no lifting for a while.
In the meantime if you haven't already learned how to do it through necessity get hold of the knack of turning in bed without using your back muscles.Post op you will find this a great help because this was the only thing that caused me a problem. The way to do it is to relax and roll.using your arms.
Many people are sceptical about back surgery and its results but don't let that put you off.I suffered years of pain and ignorant medics before finally getting rid of the problem as you are.I"ve never looked back ...if you'll pardon the pun.Good Luck

Hey there,
To recover deleted files I used a free tool called Wondershare data recovery. Get it for free here http://bitly.com/1qaK0q3
It's a very simple and nice software.
