well i like this guy and i know he likes me too through friends...we never told each other how we feel...directly...though both of us know about each others feelings what should we talk about while interacting on IM or face to face?

I think you should ask about things that you value deeply, there is no harm in trying to learn the real person...
Some people like to talk about themselves, but others are very self-conscious when put on the spot, try to discuss things you have in common then move on to differences you have after there has been some trust established.

talk about anything at first then go to the emotional side of the topics... then go to people's values... then to vulnerability & dreams...
