I thought this guy liked me, he was showing me interest but when I asked him out he said he was "unofficially taken"...why do guys flirt with girls if they have a girlfriend?

Why do you feel stupid? is he lying about having a g/f?
He didn't say "yuk! no thanks...I wouldn't go out with you if you paid me" he said he was spoken for...he didn't say you were a minger or anything....as for flirting...what exactly would you consider flirting to the point that someone of the opposite sex likes you....According to my husband I flirt quite a bit...but to be perfectly honest I'm not aware of it...I also flirt with Women, so I'm told..so does that mean I want everyone I flirt with...everyone flirts Babe....anyway, if you feel stupid....spare a thought for all the poor guys that since time started have been getting knock back after knock back....

He doesn't have a girlfriend. If he is unofficially taken it means that he is still single--its just that he is seriously considering dating another girl, or he has told a girl that he wants to date her, and is waiting for her response. Single guys can flirt with lots of girls. It doesn't look bad until he decides to date one of them. Then he is surrounded by a bunch of females, and he doesn't know what to do. I'd say that a lot of the girls he talks to he just feels attracted to. The ones he dates are the ones that he wouldn't mind having a relationship with. I know that this will sound bad, but he might see girls like free samples at Sam's. You take a taste to see if you like it(meaning flirting) and if he does then he buys the full meal(actually a girl of course and he doesn't buy a girl unless she is a prostitute.) That was the best example that I could think of.

Honestly speaking, guys love flirting even after they are married! This guy you're talking about only has a girlfriend. Definitely, it feels terrible when guys do that even after having a girlfriend. But you know what? That's how guys are. Yes, that's simply the answer to your question. Guys are never satisfied from one girl. They want more and more. That's their only desire. Most guys are like that. Very rarely will you ever find a guy that doesn't flirt with other girls after having a girlfriend or being married. Can't do much about that. I would say you should learn from this experience, and next time, when any guy flirts with you, beware! He might not be hinting that he is interested in you, but simply is doing it for fun.
I say, nowadays, many girls are like that, too. They flirt with other guys, even after having a boyfriend. You're not like that though as from what I can see. You're one of those rare girls. One of those girls that will try being committed in your relationship, and that's good!
Just try staying away from guys like you mentioned who flirt with every other girl, and remember one more thing. Don't give your heart to someone else so easily, even if you think he shows signs of liking you by flirting around.
Before you make any such decision, think not twice, but thrice!

It's natural on a certain level to flirt with others even while in a relationship, it's human nature to flirt, it's a way to be friendly without being in fear over ones own shyness...

Dont feel stupid. Everything is a chance. You took the chance and it didnt work out. so what. No big deal. Nothin wrong with flirting. it`s just a way to socialize.

thats easy. guys like some girls like to keep their options open. if you were some slut ( which is obvious that your not) and offered sex he would have jumped no problem. as so it strokes their ego to have chicks on them. the stay flirty friendly so that your always near enought to pump up their heads when they need it. you need to learn to play the game. it much easier when your a player not the playee
