they are sisters, chicky is the fat and fluffy one (from a stomach operation) and cookie is really skinny. cookie is really a fraid-i-cat. every time i walk by her she hisses and runs. i brush chicky sometimes which she loves but the only way to get cookie to play around more is the sight of ham. i put little bits of ham in their dish at night which they love, but other than that cookie just sleeps and avoids me. what can i do for her to not be so scared.

Cookie will probably always be a scared cat, and cats with meek temperaments are sometimes afraid of men. My parents had a similar situation when they adopted a second cat last year. Their new cat Muffin was terrified of my dad, but when she saw the other cat, Butterscotch, napping on my dad on the couch all the time she got the idea. Muffin has gotten a lot better and cuddles up with him and their other cat all the time now. Try to make Cookie welcomed to be by you when you're relaxing or playing with the other cat. And coaxing her with a treat makes it easier too.

They are probably too set in their ways to make any change. They are born w/a personality just like people. My cat is like Cookie - she's not much of a people person and responds to food. I'm sure she appreciates the ham.
