I have just brought a new media computer, to store my ever growing collection of DVD's, but could any body recommend a good programme to copy and store in some sort off compressed file. I have an externall hard drive off 250gb does anybody know how many dvd'c I will fit on this size hard drive.

You need a program called dvd shrink, this will compress DVD's to sizes that will fit onto a recordable dvd ie less than 4.3GB, you can "backup" directly to disk, however you will find that some dvd's are security protected and will require a program such as DVDFab decrypter to remove the security. This program having removed the security will back up the disk to your hard drive, however it will not be compressed....but you can then use dvd shrink to open these files and compress them again to hard disk.

The good thing about dvd shrink is that you can remove the subtitles and languages to compress them further.

Most commercial DVDs have copy protection built into them, meaning that if you copy them onto your computer they may not work properly. Check out DVD Decrypter. Be careful though because of the legality issues envolved.

i use slysoft anydvd to remove the copy protection on the disc and elaborate bytes clone dvd 2 to rip the disc onto hard drive..iso buster pro is also good to make an image file of the disc.

I will go along with Mark on that....

if you are just storing them on to your hard drive and not watching them you could create a rar file and if you do want to watch them then just extract and play!

clone dvd mobile.. each dvd is about 2 gb
