No, not unless you take it to an extreme. Fasting is safe up about 4 days, I've fasted, but never any longer. Going without food really breaks down your organs if you fast for more than a week.
Edit: I have no underlying medical condition and I do drink water or fruit juice to keep up blood sugar levels. The RN is right. But some people can fast for longer periods of time. You just have to know how to do it safely.

If you do not have any underlying medical conditions, fasting is healthy for you in small amounts. I would advise against fasting for longer than 48 hours at a time.

Fasting is healthy in moderation, but please be sure to keep hydrated by drinking fluids. The body can go for a month without food, but only a week without water before death ensues!
