We're planning to go to Australia and I had heard that you are less likely to get jet lag if you travel west, via LA, rather than east via Singapore. Is there any truth in this?

That's absolutely right!

The best strategy is to continue travelling west once you've finished with Australia.

I believe you can actually buy 'around the world' tickets that enable you to zig-zag across the planet however many times that you want - as long as it's always in the same direction.

Check this out with your tour operator - it may prove even more cost effective!

No, not really. Anywhich way you cut it, your body clock will take time to getting used to the new time. Jet lag is that mostly. You will be dog tired.

Stay away from alcohols during flight. Drink plenty of water inflight. Eat *very* light. All this helps.

Your immune system is down. Take some medications as a preventative for colds, sniffles etc..

In a couple of days you will overcome it. Your trip should take this into account.

Enjoy. It is a wonderful country. If you are a Nature lover, you are going to a beautiful place. If you are a wild-life lover there cannot be better place than Australia. Some unique creatures that you can only see there. If you are a plant/flowers/trees lover again, it is something to see and enjoy. Take a digital camera and shoot away to glory. I took something like 5000 pics and am still enjoying it.

Sunsets are spectacular. Beaches are wonderful, unspoiled.

Depends on your age and health I think. Personnaly it takes me longer to adjust returning west from Asia to the UK. Then I am sleepy in the early evening and awake in the morning from 5am.
Try to get plenty of rest and try to keep to your sleep and mealroutines as far as you can.
