Here's some info for you. Green tea is very healthy and is a fat burner. Also, I recommend trying flavored ones, such as Jasmine or Lotus.

"People who took green tea extract three times a day saw their metabolic rate increase by about 4 percent, according to a study published in the December 1999 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Joy Bauer, a New York City nutritionist, says green tea contains catechins, which increase levels of the metabolism speeding brain chemical norepinephrine.

Japanese researchers claim if you drink five cups of green tea a day, you'll burn 70 to 80 extra calories. Dr. Nicholas Perricone , an anti-aging specialist, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and told Oprah's viewers they can lose 6 lbs. in 10 weeks drinking green tea instead of coffee."

"Rather than focusing on the best green tea or the healthiest green tea, often you have to find a green tea you enjoy. No matther how good or how healthy the green tea, you have to like it. Some teas are a bit more vegetal / earthy in flavor while others are more subtle. Often the partially-shaded green tea from Japan, such as Gyokuro Green Tea or Sencha Green Tea, are more vegetal in flavor. The cup is a bright, clear lime green and somewhat earthy and healthy to the taste. I actually find that Sencha and Gyokuro are also very thirst quenching.

China Green Tea, such as Dragon Well Green Tea, is a bit more subtle in my opinion. You can of course also get flavored green teas, such as Jasmine Pearls Green Tea, that smells like the wonderful Jasmine flowers. Jasmine Green Tea makes for a wonderful drinking experience. The premium Jasmine Green Tea lies with Jasmine Flowers, with new flowers being brought in 7 or 8 times. Cheap knockoff is only sprayed with a Jasmine scent or includes some small flower petals in the bag. Be careful of the knockoffs."

Not sure about green tea helping you loose weight, but it can up your metabolic weight. It certainly wont make you loose weight with making consideration of the other things that you ingest. Green tea is full of antioxidants that certainly are good for you. I drink Twinings Earl Grey which is available now as a green tea. Also like Whittards teas and they do some good green and fruit teas. Best of luck with the diet and I hope you find a green tea that you like

If you prefer not to drink green tea there are capsules available. The tea itself is just an infusion so can only do a certain amount with limited results. The capsules are more concentrated, though you cannot take them if you have high blood pressure or have to avoid caffeine. While taking green tea capsules you should avoid other stimulants such as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc. The capsules are known as an 'anti fat' and help boost weightloss when taken with a healthy diet. You can get the capsules from Holland and Barrett, keep checking as they do go on offer quite regularly and are on offer now. Hope this helps.

All green tea that has been mentioned are reasonably good and healthy. However it's not the green tea that you choose, but the way you drink it. Taking the tea bag out early means a weaker tea and you geta spring in your step. However a stronger tea has the opposite effect whereby tiredness kicks in therefore you fall asleep. If you fall asleep you gain weight, so best make a weak tea...

The best tasting green tea in Japan comes from the Shizuoka region, but I don't know if you can buy it in the UK.

(Added) Sorry forgot to say that in Japan it is said that green tea contains a lot of Vitamin C, caffeine (more than tea or coffee, which may surprise some people, but it probably explains the metabolic effect), and antioxidants which are effective against cancer. That's what they say anyway.

No tea will make any difference to your weight

My favourite green tea is Chun Mee. However, white tea is 'better' for you than green teas - I'd recommend Pai Mu Tan. White tea is where the leaves have even less processing than green tea leaves - the leaves are naturally dried in the sun. They retain more antioxidants than green tea, and have even less caffeine.

As with all green teas, you should NEVER use boiling water, but water off the boil.

Studies about green tea helping you to lose weight is not a very conclusive thing. I drink it all the time not for weight lose but for its taste. There is no substitute to balanced diet & exercise.I maintain my fitness through it not to tea. If you dont believe try to drink any kind of tea but maintain your "balanced diet & exercise" i guarantee you in one week there is a difference in your weight. All are media hype. Even other kinds of tea have the same chemical composition. Body metabolic rate also affect how fast you lose weight.

Green China Tea is really good for this. Clipper's do a really good green tea, you can get it in most supermarkets, Tescos, Asda etc. I have heard that Tetley's do a green tea as well but I've never tried it. Clippers is good though. If you can't get it in the supermarket, any health food shop will sell it, it's very popular.
