Hello, I'm getting ready to file using TurboTax and on my W2 form box 2 is blank. I checked my last pay stub for 2006 and its showing 963.30YTD. That amount is listed in box 4 on my W2. Could this be an error on the W2? What should I do? I'm gonna be pretty pissed off if this delays my ability to file. Please HELP!!!

Also, on my check stub, the 963.30 is listed as FICA, what does that mean?

FICA is your social security tax withholding, which is 6.2% of your wages. If you made about $15,537, then Box 4 is correct. If your stub doesn't show any federal income tax withholding, or FIT, or FITW, then you didn't have any withheld, and Box 2 is correct.

How many allowances did you claim on your W-4? Either you claimed too many, or your payroll department made an error. Even if the payroll department failed to withhold FIT for you, you still owe it, because you received that money in your paychecks.

well if your income (wage) amount shown in box 1, 3, and 5 shows 15537 approx...then the 960.30 is what you paid in FICA taxes or as most of us know it as social security and they may not have withheld anything for federal inc tax...when u started the job you should have filled out a w-4 telling the how to withhold...married 2 dep or single 0 dep single 4 dep ...etc....this is the rate that is used...hopefully you have a couple of dependents...if not u r looking at having to pay in now....but if u have a couple of dependents either under 19 or in college 19-24...then u still get earned income credit...
if u get the EIC wonderful....and u will have no tax income with a cpl of dep...we have no dependents, however i keep our withhold to a point of either having to pay in around 100 or getting nothing back, if u have no dep and get back only from what u have paid in ...u have essentially let the govt used your money all year interest free...i have better things to do with it!!!!!! hope this helps

It could be correct as i have seen many of those this year. Technically the Employer doesn't have to take anything out until a certain point. Say you only made 3,200 then they wouldn't need to take anything out because you would reduce down to 0 tax liability and get all of the money that you paid in. you may want to as the other ppl that responded said check what you claimed on your W-4. These aren't exemptions buit allowance's. For every allowance you take the fed takes less out of your check.

no income taxes were withheld and no, probable not an blunders you've forgotten the change that befell in March with the tax withholding tables, Obama needed salary earners to have a touch better disposable income to spend to stimulate the commercial gadget and doubtless your gross grow to be sufficiently small that the minimum grow to be not reached at which income taxes are withheld
