This guy I work with lied to me about having a girlfriend. I asked him way in the beggining and he said no. And as we started talking more and more he admitted the truth. I dismissed him immediately, but why did he feel the need to lie about the whole thing.

you know, the same thing happened to my friend. this guy, seemingly perfect, fell for her and they started dating except she had a feeling something wasnt right. for some reason she thought maybe he had a significant other and asked him. he said not... but turned out it she was right. he told my friend he had feelings for her and even said "i love you" and a week later admitted he had a girlfriend. my friend asked him what he was planning to do about it.. he said he would leave it.. his girlfriend would find out sooner or later and break it up. my friend wasnt sure this was right and so told him she just wanted to be friends.

now in HER case, the guy was a total d*ckwod. even though he told her the truth.. he still didnt want to have anything to do with his "girlfriend" which obviously no one would trust.. now with YOUR guy.. maybe he liked you so much he was jsut afraid that if he had told you he had a girlfriend, chancs of him being with you would been like a fart in the wind.. gone. =P

people can be like that.. especially in positions like that, they will find it hard to tell their already girlfriend that they're seeing someone because they dont want to hurt them yet they dont want to tell the person they are seeing (you) that they HAVE a girlfriend in fear of losing you. the fact that he told you the truth eventaully sorta showed he trusted your feelings enough to want to tell you but it sort of back fired =(

guess thats all in the past though.. but think about it.. if you were in HIS position and you liked a guy and was going out with someone else, it wouldnt really be THAT easy for you to break it to either of them ... right? (i know for me, it'd be very.. hairtugging-nailbiting time...)

I think that this guy lied to you because he thought you would be stupid enough to fall at the anwer he gave you, but as he probably realised what a sweet person you are he couldn't help but tell you the truth.
Another reason could be he just doesn't want a girlfriend and felt the need to lie, after all we as girls can never uncover the reason why they lie even if we researched through the means of science lol...

Maybe he was just fishing around to have a affair on the side with you, it apparently failed as you caught him in a lie. If he would lie about not having a gf, he would lie to you about other things. You did the right thing. Guess he did not figure on you being a smart lady.

P I G... some men and women for that matter are liars...they give you the B.S. answer first to see where it could take them. Well thank god you found out before you did something you'd regret. I think its cool that you dropped him because what's worse than a lying man is a sideline female trying to convince him to leave his wife or girlfriend... Your the bomb for standing up for yourself and your morals.

He was interested in you, probably for you know what. A lot of men are like that. I WAS married to a man worse than that. He never would admit to lying.

because he wanted to start something more with you and he knew that by telling the truth that you would in fact not be interested.. the only reason he finally confessed to it is because he felt the sudden urge of guilt in knowing that if he didn't tell you then he would proceed to start something with you and in return cheat on his girlfriend...

He was probably attracted to you and toying with the notion of cheating on his girl. Good for you for staying away from him.
He sounds like a jerk.

maybe he was lonely and wanted someone to talk to and if he told you he had a girlfriend, you wouldn't talk to him.

after you two got close and talked he finally told you because he thought that you two were good friends enough to stay that way. i hope you two will continue to be friends even though he kept that from you. you should ask him.
