No one can answer that question because death is final. People can make assumptions and say kind words and that's about it. My father passed away years ago too and I never questioned whether or not his spirit lingered. It was a final thing. I grieved and continued on with my life as you have done. It's apparent that you loved your father very much but this idea that you have is eating away at you and you have to try and put a stop to it. And dead people can't "hear" you. They are dead. Talking to a grave gives you emotional comfort and a sense of that person still being with you and that's okay if you let it remain in perspective. Don't let these thoughts that you're having continue to be an obsession. It's not good for your overall well being.

When my dad was 12, he and his young cousin were struck by lightning. His cousin, unfortunately died, and my dad was knocked out for an hour or two. He recalls dreaming? or thinking he was going down a tunnel with a bright light at the end of it, but then woke up. I always thought that was interesting, b/c I saw a TV show where others recount that tunnel and a bright light as a near-death experience which they also believe was the afterlife/heaven but I don't know for sure if that was the case for my dad, because he never did receive any medical care at the time. It could have just been the effect of the lightning striking his head? Don't know, just interesting esp. because my dad was a 12 year old farmboy with no TV/news/etc.
If there is a heaven, I think that your dad would be able to hear you. I have to admit, that after I pray each night, I always say a few words to my dad & mom up in heaven too, Like a short message for them, too, like I'm talking to them up there, too. I'd like to think they hear me; I believe they do.
I don't know if your dad saw you right after he died, but I do like to believe that our family members are there when we have wonderful moments; like when I got married; had my children; when I graduated college; and moments like that. I'd like to think so anyway!

People can all tell you their experiences, but unfortunately we really don't know. My husbands grandfather went blind right before death. I personally believe that he is with you and can feel you. I would recommend thinking about him before you go to bed and ask him to come visit you. Hopefully he will come to you in your dreams and you can see that he is okay and talk to him. This life is so hard to live, that I think this is hell and when you die, Heaven awaits.

Honey, you won't know what your dad knows now until you go too. I bet he knows you come to visit him and he's glad, but he's also getting on with things there. He'll be there when you pass. And he'll make the change easier for you. Don't you worry about your old dad. He is fine. You bet he is.

many people that have near death experiences report that they float above their body and can see and hear what is going on.
i talk to dead people too. if they can't hear you, then at least the part of them that you hold in your heart can hear you and it makes you feel better. isn't that what is really important?
sorry for your loss, i wish you peace.

Unfortunately there is no solid answer for that... it depends on your faith and what you believe.
I believe that our loved ones energy and "spirits" are always around us. Once they leave their bodies, they are free.
If you feel that your father can hear you and it makes you feel better to talk to him then hold onto that.
