since this is breaking a commandment, and taking his name in vain literally means calling upon him for something which he will not do, shouldn't we quit praying to him altogether? Even if you believe that some prayers are answered, you never know if one will be or not, so why take chances? Isn't this a commandment only God himself can make you violate? If you say "God damn it," and God does indeed damn what you referred to, then you're not taking his name in vain, right?

To do this, first you have to know the Lord's NAME.
It is NOT...LORD
That is God's TITLE.
And it is NOT...GOD
because there are many..." gods.
Even satan is a 'god.'
(2 Corinthians 4:4) among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.
As to Almighty God's NAME...Psalm83;18 and
(Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

I agree that God is a title, not a name, and therefore saying "goddamn it" isn't taking the Lord's name in vain. Personally, I don't say it for a couple reasons. Respect for the title of God and in the Bible (in so many words) says to watch what comes from the mouth. I don't remember the exact verse though.

People will look at taking the lords name in vain in many different ways. some will see it as calling god out his of name, You know, GD and stuff. Some will see is as using gods name in a way that is not a loud. "I hope god damns you to hell" or " may god punish people for there evil ways" in that we are saying what we (little ) people think god should do or we are trying to tell god what to do and him being god should NEVER be told what to do.
As for god only answering some prays , god answers ALL prays. He just sometime says NO!!

God is not a genie in a bottle. We can't rub his belly and curse someone with his name. This was actually done by pagan with false gods all the time during the time of the Old Testament.
When we pray, we should pray for the Lord's will to be done, not our own.

who knows if any prayers are awnsered? Is there really a god? You know that anyone could have just made it up. especially if the person in the begining learning about it wasn't that bright anyways then who knows if they were conned or not. Is praying really going to solve our problems? maybe we just need to do it ourselves and see what happens. I don't think that it is wrong to say god damn. I mean my family gets mad if you say just god but what if you are calling his name is that in vein. who knows, who cares. We'll know one day till then we just need to try to do right not because of the bible but because we want to for society and to make a better home for ourselves. So many people are reliant among religon, we need to have some faith in ourselves huh? You decide that is what I think.

My translation of this commandment is that God's name should be kept honourable and above all else. To bring God/The Lord's name in vain is to ask of him without any reason or respect, and God would like it very much if you could keep him paramount in your life and give him the respect he/she deserves, in the words of highlander "There can be only one"
P.s I think of myself as a christian, but that's in my soul and I have no need of priests or their followers.

I wonder why Christians are so self-centred, egoistic and small-minded enough to think that the word "God" belongs to them. Heck, Allah is also "God" in arabic (even arabic christians use Allah as the name of God), it's just a word.
