Yes, Benadryl is fine to take to control itching. It controls pruritus (itching) by blocking effects of endogenous release of histamine. Do not get the non-sedating antihistaminics because they lack sufficient antipruritic action.

Honestly, i don't know if that would make a difference because benadryl is an antihistimine so it blocks your body from having an allergic reaction. I would imagine that the itch caused by the chicken pox virus is more complicated than an allergic reaction, but you never know unless you ask the right people!! Talk to a pharmacist and ask if it would make a difference. But I think that the only way to treat the itch of chicken pox is the topical treatments like oatmeal baths and calamine lotion.

Definitely. In fact, sleeping through chicken pox would have been nice... oh well, you can also get anti-itch lotion to put on it, but be sure to get the stuff with Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride in it. Its the same stuff as the active ingredient in Benadryl, but in a lotion form.

Yes benadryl is often prescribed for itchiness relating to Chicken pox... but you should have had a vaccine,, then you would not have gotten them...

benadryl is an antihistamine so it will alleviate some of the itchiness. give it a try. just make sure whoever has chicken pox has taken benadryl before and knows how it affects them i.e. drowsiness.

Yes they can take it, and use calamine lotion too. If it's really bad
give them a bath with Aveno Oatmeal packets and let them soak.
It really helps with itching. Just do Not give asparin.

It will not cause a problem other than drowsiness and dryness. It does not cure anything, but the itching might get better.
