I started skating when I was 15, which is the same time I took up hockey. I didn't skate all that often, but when I did I put my all into it.

I'm now 21 and I can skate fairly decent. I'm up there in speed and maneuvers with some of the guys who've played their whole lives. Take into consideration too, that I have a degenerative spine disease which kept me off the ice for the better part of 2 of those years.

The biggest key to being a good skater is to work hard at it when you go. And to go whenever you can. In time you've develop the strength and agility you need, just remember to always stick to the basics and you'll be alright. Also, if you talk to other skaters for tips, you'll help build some of those basic building blocks. Most of all, just have fun with it.

No, it's not too late. Look around at some of the champions and you'll see that they started when they were teens. Perhaps the greatest case in point is the Protopopovs, an amazing pairs team from Russia. Ludmilla began skating when she was 16 and they went on to win the Olympic gold twice! The Protopopovs are now in their seventies and they still skate daily, having had a wonderful professional skating career. They're living proof that you don't need to start as a young child to become a wonderful skater and have a successful skating career.

I started skating at 35..I always wanted to but never got around to it. When I start a sport I do whatever I can to learn. I did research and bought skates and signed up for group lessons which are cheaper than individual. Once I learned the basics I went for private instuction. You do need an instuctor to teach you the right way to skate so you don't start with bad habits like clinging to the walls and bad form. I am now 43 and am good at it. I can do single jumps and most footwork and spins. Skating is fun, great exercise and amazing for your posture. GO for it!... at your age you will be great in no time.

it's never too late to start. Of course that ice princess movie thing gives the false impression that one can be a professional skater just like that, but if you want to learn ice skating for leisure, then it's never too late cos anyone can learn how to ice skate.

Absolutely not, just stay focused and determined. If that's what you want to do, than do it. A lot of people get into a hobby or career at all kinds of ages. Look at all of the people going back to college in their late 20's and so on. It's never to late to start something you want to do. Good luck with skating!

Of course not! You can totally learn to skate now. It's probably too late to make the Olympics, but that's not why you start a sport...enjoy it!
