She had terrible diarrhea on Monday. Then on Tuesday it seemed to go away but then she was vomiting. My husband came home from work Tuesday too, with the same thing. Yesterday she only vomited once but the diarrhea was back. But last night she was running around and playing and ate a good dinner. Sje got up this morning and ate breakfast. Had soup for lunch and for dinner she asked for soup also. And she was fine. She went to bed around 9PM and just woke up crying, about 20 minutes ago, and vomited all over her bed. I brought her out to the family room and she vomited again.

Since Monday I've spoken to the doctor 4 times and she says it's a virus and to give her Pedialite and make sure she doesn't have a fever ... which she doesn't.

My mom and my sister's 3 kids have this virus too. We're in central NJ ... it's going around. But I feel so bad for her. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make her feel better, besides hugs & kisses?

My cousin is actually an emergency room nurse and she's on duty right now so I just called her. And she said not to try to stop the vomiting and diarrhea. It's a virus ... you want it to come out. Which makes sense, I guess.

And she is drinking a lot ... water and ginger ale.

I am also an emergency room nurse. Unfortunately there is nothing other than kisses, cuddles & encouragement that will make your daughter feel better. I agree that it is best not to give her anything that might stop the D & V. It is also probably best to hold off on the food until tomorrow at least. Keep giving fluids, water is fine & as long as she is urinating at least every 6 hours & is alert then she is not in any danger. If she becomes overly lethargic, stops urinating for more than 6 hours or looks particularly unwell & floppy then she needs to see a doctor asap. Dehydration is your only concern with this illness. Hope this helps.

3 Year Old Vomiting And Diarrhea

quikeye is right - try the chamomile tea
when my son was about that age he caught a bug that the doctor said it was going around, would last about 12 days and that it just had to run it's course. After that call I gave him about 4 tablespoons of lukewarm chamomile and in twenty minutes he stopped puking and within an hour no more runs.
I have used it since. My son now asks for tea whenever he's feeling sick to his stomach or having the runs and it works!
It won't work on all bugs they can get but it does work on most and it's a simple, low cost and effective cure.
And I don't know why the medical "professionals" refuse to accept this age old tried and true remedy or even acknowledge it.

The liquids, Pedialite, Gatorade, are both good. Do you have any children's Tylenol, or children's Motrin? I would think the Tylenol may be easier on her tummy. Popsicles, kool - aid are good to keep her hydrated as well. Plus, when she starts feeling a llittle better, maybe some chicken broth. If she doesn't feel good in a few days, or seems to get worse (hopefully she won't) please consider making an appt. for her to see her doctor this next week. Take care.

Have you checked any peanut butter in your house recently? Peter Pan just had a recall for certain code numbers that the peanut butter contained salmonila. Aside from that, has your daughter been around anyone with the same symptoms?( either at school or at home?) It is possible to have a virus, and not completely gotten over it and get sick again.

My daughter had this recently. Make a 'special' bed for her on a matress or something in front of the telly (I know this is not very good, but the more rest the better) hire her fave movie, have a glass of water CONSTANTLY available as she'll need fluids, cut up some oranges (she probably wont want to eat, but having it next to her in case is good...vitamin c) a cool wet washer to place on her head is good to
Pamper her and make sure she gets lots of sleep and fluids.:)

I would just say maybe sleep with her on the couch with a small trash can right by it. That's what I do when my daughter is sick and vomiting. Snuggling her should help. If she can't sleep maybe read to her. Give her pedialyte pops....crackers....maybe..I'm so sorry to hear she is sick. It is so hard to see them sick especially a virus cause there's not really alot you can do. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

You could try to get her to drink a little unsweetened chamomile tea it helps to soothe tummies and will keep her from dehydrating. If it keeps up you may want to take her to the er to make sure she isn't dehydrating.

My favorites for that are:

Campbell's chicken rice soup with a tiny, tiny, bit extra water in it.

Water flavored with the tiniest bit of Tang (so it is extremely weak and just has a hint of Tang flavor)

Coke

Saltines

Scrambled egg with milk so its fluffy and not greasy

id go to the emergency room. Your child could get dehydrated. They do have suppositories and shots that can stop your child from vomiting. GOOD LUCK
