In the 1980's I was in the US military. We had joint exercises with the Canadian military. I found their command structure better than our's because it's all under one command umbrella. Canada has been side-by-side with Americans in most all the wars, with exception of a few, namely Iraq (you withdrew your troops after suffering friendly-fire deaths at the hands of American troops), and the War of 1812, since you were under British rule. You were with allied forces at D-Day on June 6, 1944. Your troops have always shown courage, dignity, & a willingness to serve with honor and conviction. Canadians have much to be proud of. I also enjoyed working with your Coast Guard, too. Even though your numbers are small, you should take some credit for being peacemakers much more than just a military force.

yes LOTS of people respect the Canadian Armed Forces they do everything without seeking respect from others and yes Canada does indeed have a military.. last time I checked a very very good one, who also helps train American Pilots Canada is known for its peace keeping, and definetly known for its fighting. It was the germans who said that Canada has the most amazing house to house fighters [known during the Battle of Ortona in WWI during the Italian Campaign] It was also Hitler, who said they would not meet any other German Soldiers to supply backup at Vimy Ridge for they would meet certain death, the Canadian Military took over Vimy Ridge in 3 days, when the French and British couldn't take it over in 3 years. They don't get enough respect or what they do here in Canada and aboard... but you know what? known of them do it for respect or to be loved.. they sign up and enlist to serve their country their people and to ensure the rights of every human being across this planet. good question, starred ella

If you're so ultra-nationalist and begging for respect for the Canadian military forces (which I agree have contributed in the 20th/21st century conflicts) why are you flying a Scottish Rampant Lion as your avatar?

And, also whilst I'm earning thumbs down from all our Canadian Y! Answers users (which is undeserved because I actually agree with you that the Canadian Military deserves better respect) can I ask where you've actually heard from someone in the UK that we won WW2? I've never heard another Brit claim that WW2 was solely won by us. Interesting - since they must have been very deluded indeed.

Put your Rampant Lion back - don't bow to pressure from cr4p people like me!

Canadians respect our military, and that is all that matters. When most of the people of the United States and Britain do not even respect their own government and its leaders, why would we care what they think about us and the contributions and sacrifices we have made. We (Canadians) love our troops and it is heartfelt true love and admiration. Not a love that can be questioned by what political party you side with.

Sadly you will not get any good answers here. Respect comes from within for always being the best and people with always find something to criticise. I have a lot of respect for them and I was in the US Navy.

Canada deserves some credit !
Not a big force for 30 million now.
Regular personnel (2005) approx. 64,000
Primary reserves (including Rangers)(2005) approx. 27,500.

Canada has what? 2000 troops in Afghanistan? Maybe? That's not exactly what most people would consider a commitment. It's that same lack of commitment that hasn't garnered any respect from not just the US and UK, but the rest of the world. Sure, you helped out during WWII, but that help wasn't pivotal. Frankly, the USA, England and Russia could have done it without you. I'm sorry, but Canada has a sub-par military for a superpower, and for some reason that seems to be okay to them.
