No, it's not normal. You should go someplace you do not hate.

I hate the US too. I go back a long way, and i can tell you after Vietnam was over the mid and late 1970's the US was a great place. We were growing into a social democracy like Norway, Switzerland, Uruguay today, and France, UK, and most other western Europe countries back then. You could leave a job in the afternoon and get another in the afternoon. If you were disabled you had more buying and paying power with your ssi or ssd than you have today. And american government and a big portion of society have become aggressive and mean. If was not disabled or had a benefactor i would leave the US forever. I'd like to go to live in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Uruguay, or Ecuador....sigh

It may be technically "normal" (rather than "abnormal"), but there's something very short-sighted about hating "the United States" as a whole (for a number of reasons).
A lot of people who say they hate the United States are either from other countries of different cultures or else are Americans who think its cool to say they hate the United States. Any chance you think its cool to hate the United States? That's normal for young people.
What country do you think you'd like better? A country in Asia? How about Africa? How about the Middle East? South America?
Would it be better in a Scandinavian country? What about France? Italy? Germany? How about Eastern Europe? Russia? Which one of those have you been to for any length of time, and what is it about any of those that you think is so good as compared to the United States?
Of course, the U.S. is so big and such a democracy it does have some things that aren't all that admirable; but you need to ask yourself exactly what it is about one or some of those parts of the world I mentioned that you think would make them a better place to live than the U.S.
Are you someone who has emotional issues and discomfort about being associated with a nation that is so powerful? Would you feel better to live in a powerless nation where you didn't have to reconcile any guilt about power?
Would you say, "I hate Italy"? If your answer is, "I don't know enough about living in Italy to say that" you may want to consider that you don't know enough about the U.S. to make that statement either.
I've known an awful lot of people who came to the U.S. from other countries and who have gone on and on about how Americans don't appreciate their own country as much as they should.
I, personally, don't care who hates the U.S., but you may find that you feel better and happier if you look for a few things to appreciate about your own country.

Well firstly i think i had better say im not an american so you might think im not the best person to be saying this but thats ur opinion. please dont be offended or anyone else for that matter.
i must applaud you for despite not liking your country at least having the heart to call ur self an american. you need credit for that. next you must exactly identify wht is it about the US that you do not like or which makes u hate it. if you have 2-3 reasons identify the most loathed reason. once you have done that think is there something you have done to change that aspect of the US that u particularly hate. i find that alot of people dont like things that they cannot emulate or just cannot do. im sure if u try to change that aspect ull find inner peace and might just start liking ur country. i know i must sound a bit raving and my idea is all over the place but if u read my advice more than once ull get wht im trying to say. hope to help you out.

i do not think that it is the United States that you hate, but the GOVERNMENT and the decisions that a few people are making that are causing what is really a great country to have such a horrible reputation and devastating effects all over the world WE ARE THE PEOPLE and THEY have taken advantage of us, caused us to doubt ourselves and our basic beleifs. WE do not want war, and WE would feed the children and WE would send supplies and WE would love and care for all we could. WE would love our neighbors as ourselves if WE were given the chance and the choice. Do not confuse the GOVERNMENT with the people who really make this country great.

as you are an American its your right to hate whatever you like thats the good thing about living in democratic countries you can feel and say what you like (as long as you don't hurt anybody else)but if feeling this way gets to you maybe its time to make a change and move on to some place you do like.

Honestly, you can be a citizen of the US due to the technicality of being born on US soil. This DOES NOT, however, make you an American - just a citizen.
Americans are US citizens who have pride for their country and are willing to support and defend the constitution against enemies both foreign and domestic. You dont have to serve a day in the military to defend the ideals, principles, values, and morels which are unique to American society.
If you "HATE" the US, then i would suggest leaving the country. With such a position, it would mean that there is no one in the US , who calls themselves "American", who you like. Therefore you only like "citizens" of this country and not "Americans". I just dont seem many Americans getting along with people with such positions.
Good luck!

If you just want sympathy forget it loser. Texaspride said it well, even though you are a citizen of America, you are not truly an American** until you have pride in this country, which BTW bimbo you wouldn't be here for if your ancestors hadn't move here to find a better life and if we had never gotten our declaration of Independence, which people were willing to die for-because freedom isn't free. You can voice your opinion, but also do us a favor and get the hell out of here. :)

the country has issues~everything has gone to hell~the cold war was so great a device in its self that its loss can't bring a new sense of security or peace or freedom or your happiness, there so many things that are taken for granted that getting the USSR off our backs that it was not apparently foreseen what the out come would bring~there are reasons now to restate the soviet block to be the power that is face to face with us as it lets them cover our backs and we cover theirs~this is not on the agenda and will falter in the light of a defenseless position that is now facing deterioration and has big brother scrambling to hold hands with the corporations to lower the security and bring in Mexico to replace us as cheap labor just to satisfy the losses that can stagger even a nation this big because of the propaganda and abuse of our rights have no meaning to those in power
