There's a useful gimmick to help stop worrying. You simply cultivate the habit of postponing worrying. Your mind becomes (re-)conditioned to not dwell on worries in the present.

The trick is that whenever you feel plagued by a worrying thought, note it down on a "worry sheet" (a piece of paper set aside for the purpose) – you can then forget about it, knowing that you plan to worry later.

This deceptively simple technique is effective because it bypasses the psychological obstacles mentioned above. Your mind is "fooled" into thinking that you haven't given up worrying. Meanwhile, you lose the habit of worrying in the present moment.

You can plan to revisit noted worries at a time when you're worry-free. Or you can postpone worries indefinitely. That might sound bizarre, but then so is the notion that you must experience endless unhappiness (eg worrying) before you're allowed to be happy.

More likely is that when using this technique you

This does sound helpful ...

The problem with anxiety( have it myself) is not so much about the worries but the brain triggering the wrong receptors and thus causing anxiety..

People with anxiety have an overactive response in their brain.. It is set off by any number of reason .. Some that are not even real reasons ..

Our Flight /Fright mechanism is overactive and will overload regardless of how many times you write it down..

The up side... I do write my worries down ALL OF THEM ... I do not leave the list after that for later , I check off on the list what is not a national emergency...And when I am done with that , I do not worry about the list but I do acknowledge them and I do put a plan in order to help me solve them.

I have come to a point where my brain can finally assimilate the real worries from the un-realisic worries without having to write them down..

It has taken alot of discipline and effort on my part..

Also: Sometimes , depending on your circumstances , Anxiety develops due to some unresolved issue from your past...

Watch what gives you anxiety and question yourself as to why you were anxious about that particuliar situation..

make a journal and list the times you are anxious and what caused it..This really works.. Solved alot of my past issues this way....

Don't just blow it off ...Its that important...

Some general tips:
* When you feel anxious , do some deep breathing techniques ...
breath in thru the nose ,hold for a few seconds and release thru the mouth... Slowly...
Do this about 5 times or so... What this does is slow the heart rate down and gives you a general feeling of well being..

* No caffeine... People who are anxious will get worse depending on the amount of caffeine consumed...

* take a multi-vitamin.. Usually , a person who is very anxious is also deficient in several key nutrients.. The best multi I have found is by TWINLAB..Other vitamins that help: calcium ( consider a muscle relaxer) B12.. people with alot of anxiety can deplete their B12 intake unusually fast..
Herbs that help: Valerian, Camomille,Passion Flower,Also aid in sleeping better..

* DO NOT put yourself in situations that can possibly cause anxiety and worry .. I am not saying avoid them all , thats impossible but if you see a possible anxiety moment coming and its avoidable , do so..

* Positive feedback: give yourself daily affirmations ....
Example: write on post notes around the house /apt etc... Things like

TODAY IS GOING TO BE POSITIVE AND GREAT..
I WILL HAVE AN AWESOME DAY..
I LOVE WHO I AM
I'm sure you are getting the idea :)

And last but not least:
If you do believe in GOD , Pray and spend time in a peaceful place just being..

Prayer , regardless of who you are has proven to be very helpful in helping people recover from all kinds of trauma..There are all kinds of reports ( medical) to substantiate this base of thought..

f your anxiety persist thou and does not get better, seeking medical help is a must .. Anxiety left untreated can lead to Panic attacks ( been there too) and you do not want one of them.
Possible meds and counseling to help you with coping skills can help alleviate alot of the anxious problems ....

I will pray for you if you do not mind ..Wish all the best :)

hope I could be helpful to you ;)

It sounds like a good idea. When I start to worry I always do what I used to do with my homework at school which is, I will worry about it tomorrow. The whenever I think about whatever it may be I just say I'll worry about that tomorrow. For me though it only works for actual things that are happening in my life, so I can't do it for irrational fears, which unfortunately are usually the source of my panic attacks and anxiety.

If your worries are valid, postpone them indefinitely and they will come back to you 100 times. Get to the root of the anxiety and determine whether or not it is a valid concern. If so, contemplate ways to make it invalid and change your course.

i just think of a person who is handicapped in life......or how other people in the world have it far worse then me. or how others in this world are in a worse situation or problem. then my problems seem so small or insignificant. i did learn something from the technique you just described though. but you will have to address those things you written down or else you will be 'backlogged'.
