Muslims do not have to have beards - it is more cultural and has nothing religious. In most mid eastern cultures the beard is or was actually a sign showing one to be religious. this tradition moved on and ppl keep beards just to show their 'religiousness'. I m a devout muslim - i dont keep any sort of beard and never distinguish any man for his beard. And dont call anyone muslim or nonmuslim just for one's beard.
Well as u might see, in places near and in the middle east any religious ppl whether jew muslim or christian can keep beards - so this is rather a cultural aspect as I said b4, and nothing to do with any specific religion. well there could however be another reason - u c all the Prophets of Islam actually had one thing in common - they had beards, thus out of respect of them many muslims keep beards. Its more like being fans of men.
There is nothing Ugly abt having or not having beards - dont listen to crazy extreme muslims or anti Islamic jerks. Islam if understood properly is a beautiful religion, its just ppl who misrepresent it. U raised a good question - be enlightened. Smile and have a good day. Peace upon u from a devout muslim.

Jesus had a beard. So, as far as I know, did all but one of his disciples. God is depicted as having a beard, too.
Santa's got a beard. Even Ho Chi-Min had a beard and Confucius.
Dammit. Everyone's got beards!
Haven't they ever heard of 'King' Gillette?

I agree with MYSTERY WOMAN and also i would add that at the time of Prophet Mohammed P.B.U.H, He told us to let our beards grow and to trim our mustache. Letting beard grow is not Farz but is Sun-nah. I have a trimmed beard but i will let it grow soon after my marriage Inshallah.

It is a sunnah [practice of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)] to have a beard.
One who does not have a beard is not following the sunnah.
And Allah knows best.
