totally different viruses....hcv lives in the body as well as outside, and it can reconstitute if the blood has dried and moisture is added.

hiv needs the body to thrive, once it hits oxygen it usually dies in a short period of time.

it boils down to certain viruses only live where they live due to it's host. if the host is not there, the virus usually dies.
