Not necessarily because they also have periods of sleep and wakefulness. From the outside we can't notice it, but it does happen. Also, remember that people in a coma can still hear what people are saying about them and about what's going on.

No it is the opposite, when they wake up they are groggy and feel very weak, as there muscle have mostly atrophied.
