one thing i do is just take ibuprofen regularly... you're throat is sore because it's inflammed and ibuprofen (advil) helps with this. you can also drink hot tea, tea with lemon and honey, throat losenges, chloriseptic spray. i knew people that would gargle with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water, but i've never done that. you can also gargle salt water.

Herbal Throat Lozenge This homemade lozenge is simple, easy, and quite effective at treating a sore threat. 3 tablespoons licorice, powdered 3 tablespoons marshmallow or slippery elm, powdered 3 tablespoons red raspberry leaves, powdered 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper 10 drops scented geranium, sage, or rosemary essential oil Honey Cornstarch Mix herbal powders together with just enough honey to make a thick goo. Add essential oil and mix well with fork or fingers. Pinch off small pieces, roll into balls, and flatten slightly to form a lozenge. Toss lightly in a bowl with a little cornstarch. Set to dry for 12 hours. Store in an airtight container. Then eat! It sounds gross, I know, but it works!

What a bummer! Gargling with salt water and other things are good. The most soothing thing I've found is to gargle with Benadryl or Chloraseptic spray. If you have need of more relief, get an RX from your Dr. for the liquid form of Lidacane (sp). Mix that (about 1 teaspoon) with the Benadryl liquid (about 1/4th cup), and gargle and spit or swallow. It won't make you sick.
My Dr. said my throat looked like raw hamburger and the two things mixed together gave me relief right away!
Hope you feel better fast.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Gargle with warm, salty water. Add a teaspoon of salt ot about 8 ounces of warm water. Gargle. Do this about three times a day. It will help to heal things and make it unfriendly for bacteria to grow there.
You could also try zinc lozenges.

I use Ricola cherry cough drops - very soothing.
Some people find that three drops of eucalyptus oil in some steaming hot water helps. You inhale the steam slowly.
And then there's this. Dissolve one pinch (very tiny amount) of salt in warm (not hot) water in a glass. Gargle with this two or three times a day. Remember: a very tiny amount of salt - you should barely be able to taste it.

Take a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice with a drop of honey.
You can also try a teaspoon of vinegar. It comforts itchy throat. That's what my aunt used to give me when I was younger.
I also like gargling/drinking very cold Sprite to comfort my itchy throat.
Whatever you do, make sure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of healthy fluids. Drink lots of water and orange juice.
Take care.
