What can spiritualism provide that peronal conviction can't?
I am very strong willed and have seen some poor ministers in my time. Why should I believe in God, when some of his local leaders are lacking in moral character. Why do people allow themselves to be preached to by men who lack the ability to follow their own words and convictions.
This is not one or two instances. I have traveled alot, and been to several churches. Each one has their own vibe, and focus of what they believe to be important. So many mixed up beliefs in one book.
So, Why go to church? Why believe in God at all? It seems to be big business. I am not trying to attack the church, just the reason why we need so many. Open the yellow pages and look up churches. Just count them. Now how many are teaching the right message, and how many are looking for money? This is my problem with believing in God. It has been corrupted by men. Even the bible has been modified to control what is known. Why?

I can make it all really simple for ya'. Screw what other people say. Look inward not outward. Find God in you, centeredness. From there strive for harmony with what you see around you.
The movie "Stigmata" comes to mind. Gospel of St. Thomas as well. Some believe Jesus' REAL message, "I am the Light and the Way, no others should come to my father except thru me," was more philosophical and meant more finding inside what he had found and bringing it forth for the betterment of Heaven and Earth. --And working together to those ends, really would bring about Heaven on Earth, "but the people prefer darkness." It's unfortunate....

First, I would like to say I feel sorry that you had to come across these things. But you do have to understand that we are all human. We are not perfect, and not one is better than another. Just some are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. That is the world, imperfect and dirty. That is why so many Christians want Jesus to come back all the sooner because we are so sick of the immorality around us. (I suppose it being paraded around is just too much, instead of it being kept locked in secret?) Every Apostle had his hangups. they just happened to have a heart for God. In revelation, there are 7 churches and they all have rewards for good things, and almost all have criticisms. We are human so hw could our leaders be perfect? Because only Jesus is perfect. Whether it be pride or sexual immorality, the sin is all sin, just this humanistic society that has come about tells us that pride is good and sexual immorality is also good (which doesnt make sense because they all like to point the finger at ministers when they commit adultery and ostracize them) Sin is sin, and we all do it, just some is more acceptable in society.
Personal conviction is humanism. it hurts others no matter what because you are working against the Holy Spirit. It makes things more of a mess and you try to fix it but it only makes it worse.

Pity about materialism...
Seriously, stick in there. Get to know God and you'll find out how much it's worth. Forget church. Forget the leaders. Forget the wordly values tied in with the teachings. Return to the bare basics of Christianity: God, love and grace, and salvation.
Ask God and wait. He'll show you how much he's worth knowing.

Religion and spirituality make people feel good. It's been proven that people who pray (to buddah, god, jesus, mother mary, anyone or anything) feel better, have less depression and stress related health problems, and even do better in school.
Believing in god gives an explenation for life after death which eliviates peoples fear of the unknown.

good thinking...
but then again- do not despise a God for the sins on the earth.
the fact that Jesus walked the earth and died for our sins is enough reason to want to know Him.
Hey come on! you would want to travel 10,000 miles(if you had to) to know your sweetheart and to love her. But its interesting to know if you would have the same feelings and urge to want to know the GOD who had not only died but also RESURRECTED as per the prophesies!
HE is an AWESOME GOD! the GOD of the IMPOSSIBLE!!

God doesn't ask you to hold up people in a pulpit and worship them. He asks you to accept His son, who died on a cross to pay for your sins.
Even with your great amount of pride, you surely know you have sinned in life?
