Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the pharynx that frequently results in a sore throat. It is caused by a variety of microorganisms. Most cases are caused by a virus, including the virus causing the common cold, flu (influenza virus), adenovirus, mononucleosis, HIV, and various others. No antibiotic is administered for viral infections.
Please see the web pages for more details on Pharyngitis, Strep throat and Pharyngitis-viral.

The pharynx is the throat, and "itis" means inflammation, so your son's throat is inflamed. And it seems like this is caused by a viral infection, based on what you put in your question.
A temperature is a sign that his body is fighting the infection. Two degrees higher than his normal temperature does seem like a fever. I assume you have already seen a doctor, but if you haven't, you could take him to one. Follow the doctor's advice. My guess is that the doctor will recommend that you give him some medication to lower the fever and wait for him to get better.

Pharyngitis is lesser version of stretocococus(strept throat). I only know this because my daughter had it not to long ago except she was running a high fever. The doctor gave us anti-biotics for the infection and I was giving tylenol and motrin in four hour increments. As long as you are giving your child something for the infection, everything will be okay.

You haven't said if you have taken him to the doctor so how do you know its pharangitis at all? Why would you ask on here ? This is your sons health take him to the doctor or clinic and stop playing with his health. No one with any common sense would give you a diagnosis over yahoo answers anyway.

inflammation of the pharynx near his vocal cords, must have resulted from him overstraining his voice or probably he's been having undetected tonsilitis for a while that traveled down to his pharynx or he may be having dry cough for quite some time resulting to tearing out of some tissue in the pharynx while coughing. your son will need antibiotics, the doc will prescribe you what dose and kind of antibiotics is appropriate for your son, and he will also need antitussive (a cough suppressant), in order to avoid further tearing in his pharynx while coughing if he has a cough, and he needs to take increased dosage of vitamin C to help heal the inflammation. the fever is normal, it is the result of inflammation, it's his immune response to his inflammed pharynx. increase his water intake it will really help. especially when he starts on the antibiotic therapy. and bedrest will also help to boost his energy levels in figthing off the disease. your son will be fine. he may also need some steroids depending on the degree of inflammation but the antibiotics may be enough. if he is coughing, there may be also a need for asthma precaution if he has it. let him sleep in high low back rest with 2 pillows to aid his breathing and really increase the fluid intake a lot because fever could dehydrate him.

pharyngitis simply means that his throat is sore and a bit swollen or red. it's essentially a sore throat that's not from a bacterial infection. no reason to be concerned, his body will kick it. you won't need to be concerned about his temp unless it's over 104-106.
