I did the treatment. It is a mild form of chemotherapy, so side effects are anticipated. You should educate yourself about the disease, the drugs, and the side effects, so you will know what to expect. You also need a support group so you can meet & talk to others who are /have gone through the same thing. Alternative & complimentary treatments have not been shown through research to be effective in clearing the virus; I personally, am leary of such claims. While the treatment does not have a 100% effective rate, it is the best shot we have at clearing the virus at this point. Genotype 1 is the most common geno and the most difficult to respond to the medication (probably what one of the answerers had, not genotype A), genotypes 2 & 3 respond better with a response rate of 50-80% if you stay on the treatment for the full course (6 months to one year). I did the old non-pegylated treatment (which had worse side effects) 6 1/2 years ago. I am blessed to have responded to the treatment. I'd do it again if I had to, it's worth the chance that I won't have to worry about cirrhosis or transplantation for the rest of my life. Best wishes to you, whatever you decide to do .

No homeopathic remedy for hep C has been effective in empirical tests.
Interferon combo therapy, the current gold standard treatment, isn't effective for everyone, and the side effects for some patients are intolerable. Only about 50% of the patients with genotype 1, the msot common in the US, respond favorably to this treatment.
Other treatments based on protease inhibitors are in the pipeline, undergoing FDA testing. So far, these have had fewer side effects and have reduced the viral load to undetectable levels in less time. Some may be on the market this year or next.
Here is a link to an article about Vertex and its protease inhibitor, which appeared in BusinessWeek in October 2006: http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/oct2006/pi20061010_884843.htm?campaign_id=rss_topStories
