An eagle is a powerful glider, they tend to soar around high up looking for prey then stoop and chase, then kill using the power in thier feet, crush the skull of the victim, they are large, Broad winged and have moderatly short tails (depending on the species) and have chunky feet with shorter toes. Usualy seen in wide open areas such as mountain and moorland.
Hawks are agility hunters, they hunt their prey by swift, surprise attacks, through woodland, flying close to hedge rows and buildings, Sparrow Hawks are often seen in gardens attacking small birds on bird tables. They are short winged with long tails mid- lenth, slimmer toes and feet. most true hawks have yellow, orange or red eyes (Harris Hawks are classed as a diffrent family group, they are like a cross between a buzzard and a hawk.)
Falcons are speed hunters, They gain great hights of up to thousands of feet, Stoop / Dive at great speeds ( the fastest animal on the planet is the Peregrine recorded at reaching over 250 MPH in a stoop) and hit their prey in the air and break the neck by hitting the back of the head with their feet. They are usually seen around cliff faces on coast lines or mountain ranges, they are also seen in city centres because high rise buildings resemble cliffs. They are long winged with shorter tails and long slender feet and toes.

Eagles are generally differentiated by size. The bald eagle has a wingspread of about 6 feet, the golden eagle is larger (sorry, not familiar with eagles outside the U.S.) Most eagles are quite large and their diet can be varied (bald eagles are fishers and scavangers, goldens take small game - and sometimes the babies of larger game). Hawks (and I'm speaking specifically of Buteos) are soaring birds. They will soar and look for game on the ground. They'll hunt, depending on their size and location, snakes, lizards, mice, rabbits, quail, or birds like doves who have landed on the ground to feed. Falcons (accipters) hunt their food in the air and often take birds while in flight although they can also eat lizards and other small animals. They're very agile and fast. From a personality standpoint, hawks are much more easygoing and are not as easily frightened by the appearance of humans as falcons are (in general). Some of the small falcons react so badly to a human presence that they are very difficult to rehabilitate as they tend to stress and then die simply due to a person handling them for medical care.
