Most dogs lick themselves for a few different reasons.
1. They need a bath
2. They have a skin disorder (rash, allergies)
3. Is under stress
4. has an open wound (you'd know if this was the problem)
5. just has a bad habit
For the first two, you could wash your dog, and check him/her to see if the skin is irritated (if so see your vet)
3 and 5 are just going to take a lot of work to get the dog to stop. Always correct the behavior when you see your dog licking himself.

It could be around the time that he should be "sowing his seed", this causes the dog to pay more attention to that area =p He could also be cleaning himself... but if he's doing that as often as I think he is, then my answer at the beginning is what it could be :)

Why would you want to make him stop? Jealous?! Evidently he believes in good hygiene- & since you're obviously not going to do it for him- he's taking matters into his own paws. Think about THAT- the next time you go into a restaraunt restroom somewhere- & don't wash your hands when you get done...

No.. It is what a dog does.. Both of my dogs do that! There is nothing wrong with it. Just don't let him lick you in the face!

if you want to stop dogs/cats from licking things, put tobasco sauce on the area(s). they associate the licking with pain and stop.
dogs everywhere do this tho. it might be for cleaning... unless there's a problem and you might wanna take him to the vet if he is continually doing it.

Do you bathe him often enough? Maybe he's trying to get clean. Give him a good bath and see if that helps.

Well.. I just got mine altered.. but he still does it..
what about getting a water gun & shooting him with some cold water in the mug when he does it in front of people..
