ANY of bullet proof things what you can see or hear about them DEFORM under bullet's impact. The bullet has a lot of energy so if is not deflected (when enters in a side angle) deforms anything in his path. A solid wall made from stone or bricks would be much to easy for it to break even if it not passes through. But let's just say a solid hard and inches thick of metal that probably would deflect the bullet without remaining deformed (would still deform, but elastically perfect).
Returning to our windows probably there is not and will not be for certain years a glass not to shatter under high shock pressure. Bullet proof windows are in fact some composite materials.
That's why the bullet proof windows work like this:
between two consecutive sheets of glass is glued a self sticking (or with the help of some glue) a plastic foil and then alternatively sheets of glass with sheets of plastic foils.

When done and pressed all together to remove the air trapped by mistake inside, is ready to use.

The bullet shatters one or two first layers of glass but they shatter in very small pieces consuming the kinetic energy of the bullet, in this way the plastic foils have a major role because it holds together the shattered pieces of glass.

That's in few words the essence of the bulletproof glass.

Actually, Bullet Proof or Resistant Glass is a composite of 2 glasslike materials. Hard glass and flexible glass with an organic polymer in the middle to absorb a bullet's energy. It's staying power is determined by the thickness. So since it has glass in it, yes it can break. But it is layered to absorb the energy of the bullet so that if you shoot one at it the glass won't shatter. I suppose if you hit it with a hammer or dropped one, it would break.

Yes, but they absorb a lot of energy and reduce the speed of the bullet. And a solid wall is not transparent, isn't it?

Also, the glass is special in the sense that it doesn't shatter into several pieces which may fly off and hurt people.

With today's technology there is nothing unbreakable.or bullet proof. Dragon skin is the best yet at stopping any bullet made so far, now to make a bullet to penetrate it. There is already a knife that will penatrate a bullet proof vest, it has a tanto point .

Bullet Proof glass IS expensive, but well worth it. It's also good for when a Jehovah's Witness is knocking on your door and they try to sneak into your house if you don't answer. Wear a kevlar vest when you're asleep too. You can't be too careful
