You asked this before and never edited your question. I am still wondering why you got thyroid medications from a diet doctor.
Was it to lose weight, and if it was you will gain all the weight back. Your regular doctor is waiting for your body to clear it's self of the thyroid you were on. Then he can test your blood and see if you really need it or if it was used for weight control only.

If you don't feel confidence in your doctor, then I would try a second opinion. I have Hypothyroidism. I'm struggling right now trying to make my way back to feeling well again. It's amazing all the symptoms associated with it. If you have it, then you need medication. Otherwise you keep slipping and your metabolism slows way down. It's hard on your cardiovascular system as well. A simple blood test can give you the results in a day or so. Definitely don't go with a diet doctor. Also, I might suggest a great book, It's called, "Living Well with Hypothyroidism" By Mary Shoman. It's a fantastic book .You need a good General practitioner or an Endocrinologist. Best wishes to you.

Honey, I don't want to be rude, but I need you to be more clear. I can't understand what's going on by what you said. But, I really want to help you because I have hypothyroidism too. So, maybe you could email me and just start from the beginning and then tell me exactly how you would end up gaining weight from not taking any meds. for 3 months. I think that the part that needs the most clarifying. I hope that you do write me back because hypothyroidism causes many, many symptoms and I would really like to discuss them with you. K? Hope to hear from you soon.

the hormones from the thyroid gland (or the drugs that supply the hormones) last in the body for a long period of time. i believe it's at least 6 weeks before your true levels can be revealed (after you stop the meds). Not sure then why your doc said to wait 3 months, if you explain your concern you may be able to get in earlier just to be retested. if the wait gain is truly from the hypothyroidism, then it should go away again with treatment. it sucks, but hope you can hang in there.

Hypothyroid is serious. The thyroid gland controls your entire body's functions.
Stay away from soy products they wreak havoc on thyroid glands and nullify thyroid medication. (lost a lot of my hair being a vegan before a doctor finally told me this).
I have had hypothyroid problems for years and gaining weight is the first symptom along with being tired and feeling cold all the time....then there is hair loss, dry scaling skin, etc.
Stay with the doctor.

I have hypothyroidism. I take medication. Depending on the dose you require, this is one of the cheapest prescriptions available. The generic medicine is levothyroxine. Even without insurance, it should be around $10 to $15 for 30. I have never stopped taking it.

Believe me, you wont die... I too have hypothyroidism and haven't been taking my synthroid for about 2 yrs now, and although it sounds crazy, I don't miss it. Just as illnesses, meds are bad for you. So, the point is you wont die for not taking your pills for a few months.
On the other hand you are right about the weight gain part, and it really doesn't help if on top of that you love food (ME). :)
Good Luck

I dont really understand what youre asking... but all i do know is that hypothroyidsm MAKES you gain weight, be tired, etc. so when your treated those symptoms usually go away, or at least are greatly reduced.
